It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: If you do not find water tomorrow, you will remain thirsty. The fast travelers went ahead to search for water. I stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The mount of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned off the path and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dozed off on the mount. I supported you a little to straighten you, so you (peace and blessings be upon him) became straight, then again you leaned, I straightened you (peace and blessings be upon him), so you became straight, then again due to drowsiness you leaned so much or you were jolted that you (peace and blessings be upon him) were about to fall from the mount, I straightened you, so you became alert and asked: Who are you? I said: I am Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him). You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Since when have you been walking with me like this? I said: The whole night has passed like this. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As you have protected the Messenger of Allah, may Allah protect you. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It would be better if we stop somewhere and rest. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards a tree and dismounted there. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: See if any man is visible? I said: Here comes a rider, here come two riders, until the number of those coming became seven. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You keep watch for the time of prayer for us. Then we slept and slept so much that the heat of the sun woke us up, we woke up, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his ride and set off, we also went with you for a while, then you dismounted and asked: Do you have water? I said: Yes, I have some water in the ablution vessel. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring it. I brought the water vessel to you (peace and blessings be upon him), you said: Take water from it and perform ablution. So the people performed ablution, and a sip of water remained in the vessel. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Abu Qatadah! Preserve it, soon this sip will have great significance. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the call to prayer and everyone performed the two units before Fajr, and then the Fajr prayer was performed in congregation. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his ride and we also mounted, some of us were talking to each other saying that we have been greatly negligent regarding the prayer. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and said: What are you talking about? If it is worldly talk, then it is your own matter, but if it is a religious matter, then ask me. We said: O Messenger of Allah! We have been greatly negligent regarding the prayer. You (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Delay in prayer due to sleep is not negligence, negligence is when a person is awake and delays the prayer. When such a situation arises, perform the prayer as soon as you remember, and in the future, perform that prayer at its appointed time. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Estimate where those who went ahead have reached by now? The Companions submitted that you yourself had said yesterday that if you do not find water tomorrow, you will remain thirsty. That is why people have gone out in search of water. In the morning, when people did not find the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) among them, they began to say to each other that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) must be at some place where there is water. Among those people were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), both of them said: O people! It is not possible that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave you behind and go himself to the water place first. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Companions three times that if people accept the words of Abu Bakr and Umar, they will be well off. When the sun rose high and the heat became intense, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appeared before the people, so the people cried out: O Messenger of Allah! We are dying of thirst and our necks are about to be cut off due to the severity of thirst. You (peace and blessings be upon him) heard their words and said: Destruction will not come upon you. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Qatadah! Bring the water vessel. I brought that vessel to you, so you said: Open my cup and bring it. I opened it and presented it to you, so you poured water from that vessel into the cup and began to give it to the people to drink. A crowd gathered around you, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Treat each other well, soon each of you will leave fully quenched. So all the people drank the water, only I and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained. Then you poured into the cup for me and said: Abu Qatadah! (may Allah be pleased with him) Take this and drink. I said: O Messenger of Allah! You drink first. You said: The one who serves others drinks last. So I drank the water and after me you drank. And as much water remained in the vessel as was in it before. That day the number of people was three hundred. It is narrated from Abdullah that I was narrating this hadith in the Grand Mosque when Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) heard my voice. He said: Who is the person narrating? I said: I am Abdullah bin Rabah Ansari. So he said: The people of the nation know their own matters best. Anyway, narrate carefully. Among the seven people who gathered that night, I am also one. When I finished narrating the hadith, he said: I did not think that anyone other than me would remember this hadith. Hammad bin Salamah narrated that Humayd Tawil narrated to us from Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani, from Abdullah bin Rabah, from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in the same way. In it, there is also this addition: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stop somewhere at night to rest and a part of the night remained, he would use his right hand as a pillow, and when morning was very near, he would place his head on his right palm and straighten his arm upwards.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: A person better than me, that is, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him): A rebellious group will kill you.
