8 hadith
Hadith 11925
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) saw in a dream that he was writing Surah Sad. When he reached the verse of prostration, he saw that the inkwell, pen, and everything near him had fallen into the state of prostration. Then, when he related this dream to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to perform prostration in it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent us, thirty mounted fighters, in a military expedition. We stopped by a tribe of the Arabs and asked them for our right of hospitality, but they refused. It so happened that one of their chiefs was bitten by something poisonous. They came to us and said, "Is there anyone among you who can perform ruqyah (healing incantation) for a bite?" Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, "Yes, I can do it, but I will not perform ruqyah until you give us something." They said, "We will give you thirty sheep." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I began reciting Surah Al-Fatihah over him, recited it seven times, collected my saliva and then spat on him. Thus, he was cured and they gave us thirty sheep. When we took possession of the sheep, we began to doubt (whether they were lawful for us or not). So we refrained from making any use of them until we could ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) about them. When we came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and informed him of this, he said: "How did you know that it is a ruqyah? Distribute them and set aside my share as well." In another narration it is stated: "You eat yourself and let us eat with you. How did you know that it is a ruqyah?" I said: "It was simply inspired into my heart."

Hilal bin Husain says: I stayed with Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). We gathered in a gathering, and Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once he woke up in the morning in such a state that, due to the severity of hunger, he had tied a stone to his stomach. His wife or mother said to him: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him for something and bring it. When so-and-so went and asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he gave him, and similarly, so-and-so also went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, and he also gave him. I (Abu Sa'id) replied: I will first try to obtain something (by some other means), then I did so, but I did not get anything from anywhere. Eventually, I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), at that time he was delivering a sermon. At that time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: Whoever refrains from asking, Allah Almighty will save him, and whoever adopts self-sufficiency, Allah Almighty will make him self-sufficient, and whoever asks us for something, we will give him something. However, whoever refrains from asking us and adopts self-sufficiency, he will be more beloved to us than the one who asks. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After hearing this hadith, I returned and did not ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for anything, but Allah Almighty gave us so much sustenance that I do not know of any household among the Ansar who is wealthier than us.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My mother sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that I might ask him for something. When I reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and sat there, he turned towards me and said: Whoever desires to be self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient; whoever seeks to remain chaste (by refraining from asking people), Allah will make him chaste; whoever seeks sufficiency from Allah, Allah will suffice him. And if a person who owns the value of one uqiyah asks (for charity), he will be insistent in his asking (which is not his right). Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I thought that my Yaquatah she-camel is better than one uqiyah, so I returned and did not ask.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Amr bin Thabit that my father told me that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by him and said: Abu Abdur Rahman! Where are you going? He replied: I want to go to Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). I went along with him. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Abu Saeed! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding the meat of sacrifice, certain specific drinks, and visiting graves, and I have been informed that you narrate something from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this. Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: I had forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrifice after three days, but now you may eat and store it as long as you wish, for Allah has granted abundance. And I had forbidden you from certain vessels for drinks (i.e., nabidh). Now you may prepare and drink in those vessels as well, (just remember that) every intoxicant is unlawful. And I had forbidden you from visiting graveyards, but now if you visit the graveyards, do not say anything contrary to the Shariah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: I was sitting in a gathering of the Ansar when Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us, and he seemed somewhat frightened. He said, "In fact, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had called me to him, so I went to him and sought permission three times, but when I was not granted permission, I turned back, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever seeks permission three times from someone and is not granted permission, let him return.' When I informed Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) of this hadith, he said: 'Bring proof of this, otherwise I will punish you.' So I have come to seek testimony." Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The youngest among us will stand with you for this." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I was the youngest, so I stood up and testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever seeks permission three times and is not granted permission, let him return.'"

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Marwan had a pulpit placed on the day of Eid (in the Eidgah), whereas it had never been brought out before, and he began with the sermon before the prayer, whereas previously the prayer was begun first. A man stood up and said: "Marwan! You have opposed the Sunnah. Today, on the day of Eid, you have brought out the pulpit, whereas it was not brought out before, and you have started with the sermon before the prayer, whereas the sermon was not begun first." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Who is this man?" The people said: "So-and-so, son of so-and-so." Then he said: "This person has fulfilled his responsibility. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart—and that is the weakest level of faith.'"
