It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Irbad bin Sariyah Salmi (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, when he would call us for the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) in the month of Ramadan: Come to the blessed meal. Then, on one occasion, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: O Allah! Grant Mu‘awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) knowledge of writing, reading, and calculation, and protect him from punishment.

Abu Umayyah Amr bin Yahya bin Sa'id reports that I heard my grandfather Sa'id bin Amr bin Sa'id bin 'As narrate that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to carry a water vessel and walk alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he fell ill, after him, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) would carry that vessel and walk alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). On one occasion, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was helping the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked up at him once or twice and said: "Mu'awiyah! If you are ever made a leader, then fear Allah and act with justice." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: After hearing this statement, I was certain that I would definitely be given leadership (because whatever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said would surely come to pass).

Abu Majliz narrates that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered a house in which Ibn Aamir and Ibn Zubair were also present. Ibn Aamir stood up, but Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair remained seated. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn Aamir: Sit down, for I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Whoever desires that people stand up for him, let him prepare his abode in the Hellfire.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cut his hair with a long, broad fruit. Mujahid and Ata say: We said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): This report has only reached us from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). He replied: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) is not to be suspected regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (i.e., he is truthful in conveying this report).

It is narrated from Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the service of Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: Are you not afraid that I might have someone lying in wait to kill you and he would kill you? Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You will not do such a thing (or you cannot do such a thing) because I am within the bounds of protection and safety. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that faith prevents from killing by deceit. Well, now tell me, how am I doing in fulfilling your needs and requirements? Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: You are fine. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then leave us and the people to our own state, until we meet our Lord. (Meaning, do not interfere in my and the people's affairs.)
