It is narrated from Harithah bin Mudarrib that he relates from Sayyiduna Furat bin Hayyan (may Allah be pleased with him) that before Islam, he was a spy for Abu Sufyan and an ally of (an Ansari man). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to be killed, but when he passed by a group of the Ansar and said, "I am a Muslim," the Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah! He says that he is a Muslim." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There are some people among you to whose faith we entrust them; Furat bin Hayyan is among them."

According to another narration, Haritha bin Mudarrib reports from a companion that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to his companions: Some of you are such that I do not give them anything; I entrust them to their faith. Among these people is an individual from the tribe of Banu Ajl, Furat bin Hayyan.
