It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Taghlib (may Allah be pleased with him) that war booty came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he distributed it among some people and left out others. Those whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give any share expressed displeasure. When this matter reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he ascended the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and then said: I give to some people and leave out others, even though those whom I do not give are more beloved to me than those to whom I give. I give to those whose hearts have greed and desire, and those whose hearts Allah Almighty has filled with contentment and goodness, I entrust them to the blessings Allah has granted them. Amr bin Taghlib (may Allah be pleased with him) is among such people. Sayyiduna Amr bin Taghlib (may Allah be pleased with him), upon hearing this about himself, said: I was sitting before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and nothing is dearer to me than these words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), not even red camels.
