Hadith 11838
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا مَاتَتْ زَيْنَبُ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ رُقَيَّةُ) ابْنَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”الْحَقِي بِسَلَفِنَا الصَّالِحِ الْخَيْرِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyida Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) (or Sayyida Ruqayyah, may Allah be pleased with her), passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed his daughter and said: Go and join our best predecessor, Uthman bin Maz'un.
عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قَبَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُ وَقَالَ وَكِيعٌ قَالَتْ قَبَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ وَهُوَ مَيِّتٌ قَالَتْ فَرَأَيْتُ دُمُوعَهُ تَسِيلُ عَلَى خَدَّيْهِ يَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَعَيْنَاهُ تُهْرَاقَانِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kissed his body. I saw that the tears of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were flowing on the cheeks of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). One of the narrators of this hadith, Abdur Rahman, narrates that the Prophet's eyes were shedding tears.
Hadith 11838
عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قَبَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُ وَقَالَ وَكِيعٌ قَالَتْ قَبَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ وَهُوَ مَيِّتٌ قَالَتْ فَرَأَيْتُ دُمُوعَهُ تَسِيلُ عَلَى خَدَّيْهِ يَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَعَيْنَاهُ تُهْرَاقَانِ

Hadith 11839
وَعَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ كَانَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةُ تَقُولُ لَمَّا قَدِمَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ اقْتَرَعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ عَلَى سُكْنَاهُمْ فَطَارَ لَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ فِي السُّكْنَى قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ فَاشْتَكَى عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ عِنْدَنَا فَمَرَّضْنَاهُ حَتَّى إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ أَدْرَجْنَاهُ فِي أَثْوَابِهِ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا السَّائِبِ شَهَادَتِي عَلَيْكَ لَقَدْ أَكْرَمَكَ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَكْرَمَهُ“ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”أَمَّا هُوَ فَقَدْ جَاءَهُ الْيَقِينُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو الْخَيْرَ لَهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي“ (قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ بِهِ) قَالَتْ وَاللَّهِ لَا أُزَكِّي أَحَدًا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا فَأَحْزَنَنِي ذَلِكَ فَنِمْتُ فَأُرِيتُ لِعُثْمَانَ عَيْنًا تَجْرِي فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”ذَاكَ عَمَلُهُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Kharijah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyidah Umm ‘Ala’ Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say: When the Muhajirun migrated to Madinah Munawwarah, the Ansar drew lots to provide them with accommodation, and the name of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin Maz‘un (may Allah be pleased with him) came up for our share. However, it so happened that Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin Maz‘un (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill at our place. We treated him well, but he passed away. We wrapped him in shrouds, and Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us. I said: O Abu Sa’ib! May Allah’s mercy descend upon you. I bear witness about you that Allah has honored and dignified you. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: How do you know that Allah has honored and dignified him? I said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, I do not know anything about it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Death came to him from his Lord, and I hope for good for him from Allah. By Allah! Even though I am Allah’s Messenger, I do not know what will happen to me or to him tomorrow. Umm ‘Ala’ (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah! After today, I will not declare anyone’s purity. This caused me grief, and I was asleep when I saw in a dream a flowing spring shown to me, that it is for ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about it, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is his deed.
Hadith 11840
عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أُمِّهِ قَالَتْ إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ لَمَّا قُبِضَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ طِبْتَ أَبَا السَّائِبِ خَيْرُ أَيَّامِكَ الْخَيْرُ فَسَمِعَهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ”مَنْ هَذِهِ“ قَالَتْ أَنَا قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ“ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”أَجَلْ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ مَا رَأَيْنَا إِلَّا خَيْرًا وَهَذَا أَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا يُصْنَعُ بِي“
Kharijah bin Zaid narrates from his mother, Sayyidah Umm al-‘Ala’ (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: When Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin Maz‘un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I said: “O Abu Sa’ib! Congratulations to you, your days of life were spent well.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and said: “Who is the one saying this?” Sayyidah Umm al-‘Ala’ (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: “It is I.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “How do you know this?” I replied: “O Messenger of Allah! I said this about Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin Maz‘un (such a great and noble person).” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes, indeed, we found ‘Uthman bin Maz‘un to be excellent in every way, but remember, even though I am Allah’s Messenger, I do not know what will happen to me tomorrow.”
