It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was the habit of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever he met any of his friends, he would say to him: "Come, let us sit for a while and believe in our Lord" (i.e., by talking about the Lord, let us renew our faith). In the same way, he said this to a man, and he became angry. He went and said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Look at Ibn Rawahah, he turns away from your faith and inclines towards faith for a while." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on Ibn Rawahah, he likes such gatherings upon which the angels are pleased."

Sanan bin Abi Sinan said that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) standing and giving admonition and advice. In the middle, he said: Your brother Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not compose frivolous poetry; rather, in his poetry, he said things like this:
"And among us is the Messenger of Allah, reciting His Book, when the well-known part of the night has passed and its light shines forth. He spends the night keeping his side away from his bed, while the disbelievers are weighed down on their beds (i.e., sleeping heavily). He showed us guidance after blindness, so our hearts are certain that whatever he says is true and will come to pass."
And among us is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he recites His Book when the well-known part of the night has passed. He spends the night in such a state that his side is separated from his bed, while the disbelievers are weighed down on their beds, i.e., sleeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) showed us guidance after our misguidance; our hearts are certain that whatever he says is true and will be fulfilled.
