Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), this Companion was among those individuals whom the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed as a Naqeeb (leader and overseer) over the people in Madinah Munawwarah during the first pledge of ‘Aqabah. It is narrated from him, he says: At the occasion of the first pledge of ‘Aqabah, we pledged allegiance at the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for fighting, that if we had to fight anyone for the defense of Islam and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would not hold back from it. And Sayyiduna ‘Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him) was among those twelve Naqeebs who, at the first pledge of ‘Aqabah, pledged allegiance at the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to listen and obey him in agreeable and disagreeable circumstances, in pleasant and unpleasant conditions, that is, in every situation, and acknowledged that we would not contend with those in authority regarding government and power, and wherever we may be, we would speak the truth without fearing the blame of any blamer. Also, we pledged allegiance at the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the manner of the matters concerning women. (The mention of these matters is in Surah Al-Mumtahina).

It is narrated from Walid bin ‘Ubadah, he says: I went to Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill and in the throes of death. I requested him, “O dear father! Please give me some good advice.” He said, “Sit me up.” Then he said, “Son! You cannot taste the sweetness of faith, nor reach the true reality of faith in Allah Almighty, until you believe in every good and bad destiny.” I asked, “Dear father! How will I know about good and bad destiny?” He said, “You must be certain that whatever did not come to you, could never have reached you in any way, and whatever has come to you, could never have missed you. Son! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah Almighty first created the Pen, then said to it, ‘Write.’ So the Pen began to write at that very moment, and it wrote every matter that will occur until the Day of Resurrection. Son! If you die in a state where you do not have this faith, then you will enter Hell.” The words of another narration are as follows: The Pen said, “What should I write?” Allah Almighty said, “Write every matter that is to occur until the establishment of the Day of Resurrection.”

It is narrated from Sana Bahi, he says: I went to Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was suffering from the illness of death. Seeing his condition, I began to weep. He said: Stop, why are you weeping? By Allah! If I am asked to testify about you, I will testify that you are a believer. If I am permitted to intercede, I will intercede on your behalf, and if I am able, I will benefit you. Then he said: By Allah, whatever hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in which there was goodness for you, I have narrated it to you, except for one hadith which I have not yet narrated to you. I will narrate it to you today, and now the situation is such that my soul is about to be taken. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever testifies that Allah alone is the true deity and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger, Hell will be made forbidden for him, or he said: Allah will make Hell forbidden for him.
