Hadith 11725
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Amr, he says: Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh narrated to me, and he was an extremely handsome and beautiful, large-bodied, and tall man. He says: I went to serve Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and he asked me who I was. I replied: I am Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh. He said: You resemble Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). After that, he began to weep and wept profusely and said: May Allah have mercy on Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), he was the most robust and tallest among us. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army to Akidar, the governor of Duma, and he sent a silk cloak embroidered with gold to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it and stood or sat on the pulpit; he did not say anything and descended as he was. People began to touch and look at the cloak (and were amazed at its excellence). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you amazed at this cloak? The noble Companions replied: Yes, why not, we have never seen a better garment than this. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The cloth you are looking at, in Paradise, the handkerchiefs of Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) are more precious than this.

A long hadith is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), in which it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): You have given such a verdict regarding Banu Qurayza that Allah Almighty and His Messenger also approved of this verdict. After this, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) made a supplication and said: O Allah! If You have kept any battle with Quraysh for Your Prophet, then keep me alive to participate in it, and if You have completed the series of battles between Your Prophet and Quraysh, then take me to Yourself. After this supplication, his wound burst open, although it had completely healed, only a minor wound the size of a ring’s circle remained. Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to the tent which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had set up for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to him. By the One in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I was in my chamber and I could distinctly recognize the crying voices of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Their mutual relationship was just as Allah Almighty has said: {رُحَمَاء ُ بَیْنَہُمْ} … They are extremely merciful to one another. (Surah Al-Fath: 29) Alqama, who narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), asked: Mother! What was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on such occasions? She said: Tears would not come to your eyes at someone’s death, but when you were grieved, you would hold your blessed beard in your hand.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: This is a righteous servant, for whom the Throne of Allah swayed and the gates of the heavens were opened for his reception, but in the grave he was subjected to a single hardship, after which Allah Almighty removed that difficulty. And the narrator said once: Then Allah Almighty granted ease. On one occasion, the narrator explained in detail: The day Sayyiduna Sa’d, may Allah be pleased with him, passed away and was being buried, at that time the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said these things about him.

Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said Allahu Akbar, and we also said Allahu Akbar with him. Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! What was the reason for your saying Subhan Allah and Allahu Akbar? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The grave had become constricted for this righteous servant until Allah Almighty made it spacious for him.
