It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Trench, when the situation became severe, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is there anyone who will go and bring news of Banu Qurayza? Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) went and found out their condition and returned. When the situation became difficult again, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing three times: Who is there who will go and find out the condition of Banu Qurayza? Each time, Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and went. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prophet has a disciple (hawari), and my disciple is Zubair.

It is narrated from Zur bin Jish, he says: I was present in the service of Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, when Ibn Jurmuz sought permission to enter from him. Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Give glad tidings of Hell to the killer of the son of Sayyida Safiyyah, that is, Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam, may Allah be pleased with him. After this, Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying that every prophet has a disciple, and my disciple is Zubair. Imam Sufyan said: By disciple is meant helper.

It is narrated from Zur bin Jish that Ibn Jurmuz sought permission to come to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He inquired: Who is it? The people informed him that Ibn Jurmuz is seeking permission to enter. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Let him come in; the killer of Zubair will surely, indeed, be consigned to Hell. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say this, and then he narrated a hadith similar to the previous one.

Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father, and he from Marwan, I do not think that he is blameworthy in our view, he said that in the year 31 Hijri, which is called the Year of Nosebleed (Sanat al-Ru'af), in that year, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) had nosebleeds, and he had such frequent nosebleeds that he could not even go for Hajj, and when he feared death, he made a will for after him. A Qurayshi man came to his service and asked: Has anyone been appointed as Caliph after you? Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Do people talk about such things? He said: Yes. He asked: Who is it, that is, who has been appointed as Caliph? He remained silent. Then another man came and he also said the same thing as the first man, and he gave him the same answer. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do people mention Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) as being made Caliph? He said: Yes. He said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! To my knowledge, he is the most virtuous and was the most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
