It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: Tell me about any person who never performed prayer at all and yet entered Paradise. The people could not answer. Then he himself asked: Who is he? He replied: He is a man from Banu Abd al-Ashhal, named Asayrim, whose name is Amr bin Thabit bin Waqsh. The narrator of the hadith, Al-Husayn, says: I asked Mahmood bin Labeed, may Allah be pleased with him, about the incident of Asayrim. He explained: He used to object to and oppose his people for accepting Islam. On the day of the Battle of Uhud, when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, set out for the battle, the thought of accepting Islam came to him and he became Muslim. He picked up his sword and set out. He went to the Muslims, entered the ranks of the disbelievers, and fought with such intensity that he fell down exhausted and wounded. The people of Banu Abd al-Ashhal were searching among the slain for their family members, and he appeared before them. They said: By Allah! This is Asayrim. He did not come with us. We left him in a state where he was a denier and opponent of Islam. They asked him: Amr! How did you come here? Was it with the intention of fighting against your people or out of desire for Islam? He replied: Not out of tribalism, but out of desire for Islam, I believed in Allah and His Messenger and became Muslim. I took my sword and went with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fought the enemies, and this is what happened to me. Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Labeed, may Allah be pleased with him, stated that shortly after saying these words, he passed away in their hands and met Allah. When the people mentioned him to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: He is among the people of Paradise.
