Hadith 11628
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أُسَيْدَ بْنَ حُضَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَرَجُلًا آخَرَ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ تَحَدَّثَا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً فِي حَاجَةٍ لَهُمَا حَتَّى ذَهَبَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ سَاعَةٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ شَدِيدَةُ الظُّلْمَةِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَا مِنْ عِنْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْقَلِبَانِ وَبِيَدِ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا عُصَيَّةٌ فَأَضَاءَتْ عَصَا أَحَدِهِمَا لَهُمَا حَتَّى مَشَيَا فِي ضَوْئِهَا حَتَّى إِذَا افْتَرَقَ بِهِمَا الطَّرِيقُ أَضَاءَتْ لِلْآخَرِ عَصَاهُ فَمَشَى كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِي ضَوْءِ عَصَاهُ حَتَّى بَلَغَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and an Ansari man (Abbad bin Bishr, may Allah be pleased with him) sat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) late into the night, talking, until a portion of the night had passed, and the night was very dark. When they got up from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and set out to return, each of them had a staff. One of their staffs became illuminated, and they walked by its light. When they went further and their paths separated, the other’s staff also became illuminated, and thus both of them reached their homes by the light of their respective staffs.
Hadith 11629
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ أَنَّ أُسَيْدَ بْنَ حُضَيْرٍ وَعَبَّادَ بْنَ بِشْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا كَانَا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ ظَلْمَاءَ حِنْدِسٍ فَخَرَجَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَأَضَاءَتْ عَصَا أَحَدِهِمَا فَجَعَلَا يَمْشِيَانِ فِي ضَوْئِهَا فَلَمَّا تَفَرَّقَا أَضَاءَتْ عَصَا الْآخَرِ وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ أَيْضًا فَلَمَّا تَفَرَّقَا أَضَاءَتْ عَصَا ذَا وَعَصَا ذَا
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Usaid bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna ‘Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a very dark night. When they got up and left from him, the staff of one of them became illuminated, and they walked in its light. When they went further and their paths separated, the staff of the other also became illuminated. The narrator Hammad said: When their paths separated, his staff was illuminated and the other’s also became illuminated.
Hadith 11630
عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ الْكَهْفَ وَفِي الدَّارِ دَابَّةٌ فَجَعَلَتْ تَنْفِرُ فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا ضَبَابَةٌ أَوْ سَحَابَةٌ قَدْ غَشِيَتْهُ قَالَ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ”اقْرَأْ فُلَانُ فَإِنَّهَا السَّكِينَةُ تَنَزَّلَتْ عِنْدَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ“
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man recited Surah Al-Kahf. The house in which he was reciting also had his mount tied in it. The mount began to get restless. He saw that a cloud was overshadowing him. When this was mentioned to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: O so-and-so! If you had continued reciting, it was tranquility that was descending for the Qur’an.
Hadith 11631
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَقُولُ كَانَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ أَفَاضِلِ النَّاسِ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنِّي أَكُونُ كَمَا أَكُونُ عَلَى أَحْوَالٍ ثَلَاثٍ مِنْ أَحْوَالِي لَكُنْتُ حِينَ أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَحِينَ أَسْمَعُهُ يُقْرَأُ وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُ خُطْبَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِذَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً وَمَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً قَطُّ فَحَدَّثْتُ نَفْسِي بِسِوَى مَا هُوَ مَفْعُولٌ بِهَا وَمَا هِيَ صَائِرَةٌ إِلَيْهِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), she used to say that Sayyiduna Usaid bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the most excellent people. He used to say that on three occasions, the state I experience—if I remain in that state, then surely I will be among the people of Paradise: (1) When I am reciting the Qur'an myself or listening to it from someone else, (2) when I am listening to the sermon of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and (3) when I participate in a funeral, all my attention is focused on what is going to happen to that person and what his end will be.
Hadith 11632
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَدِمْنَا مِنْ حَجٍّ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ فَتُلُقِّينَا بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ وَكَانَ غِلْمَانٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ تَلَقَّوْا أَهْلِيهِمْ فَلَقُوا أُسَيْدَ بْنَ حُضَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَنَعَوْا لَهُ امْرَأَتَهُ فَتَقَنَّعَ وَجَعَلَ يَبْكِي قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ أَنْتَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَكَ مِنَ السَّابِقَةِ وَالْقِدَمِ مَا لَكَ تَبْكِي عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ فَكَشَفَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَقَالَ صَدَقْتِ لَعَمْرِي حَقِّي أَنْ لَا أَبْكِي عَلَى أَحَدٍ بَعْدَ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا قَالَ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”لَقَدِ اهْتَزَّ الْعَرْشُ لِوَفَاةِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ“ قَالَتْ وَهُوَ يَسِيرُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that when we returned from Hajj or Umrah, the people of Madinah came to welcome us at Dhul-Hulaifah. The boys of the Ansar also came to meet their family members. When they met Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him), they informed him of the death of his wife. He covered his face with a cloth and began to weep. Umm al-Mu'mineen (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said to him, "May Allah forgive you! You are a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and you have many virtues. Why are you weeping so much over the death of your wife?" He removed the cloth from his head and said, "You have spoken the truth. Indeed, the truth is that after Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), I should not weep for anyone. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said much about him." Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I asked him, "What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the Throne of Allah shook at the death of Sa'd bin Mu'adh." Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: While narrating this, Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking between me and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
