Hadith 11554
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not tell you which are the best households among the Ansar?" The people said: "Certainly, do tell us, O Messenger of Allah!" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The Banu Abd al-Ashhal," which was the tribe of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him. The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! After them?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then the Banu Najjar." The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! After them, who?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then the Banu Harith ibn Khazraj." The companions inquired: "O Messenger of Allah! After them, which one?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then the Banu Sa'idah." The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! After them, who?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then there is goodness in all the households of the Ansar." It is narrated from Mu'ammar that Thabit and Qatadah told me that both of them heard Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, narrate this same hadith, and he mentioned Banu Najjar first and then Banu Abd al-Ashhal after them.
Hadith 11555
It is narrated from Abu Usaid Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the households of the Ansar, the best household is that of Banu Najjar, after them Banu Abd al-Ashhal, after them Banu Harith bin Khazraj, and after them Banu Sa'idah. In fact, there is goodness in all the households of the Ansar. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Sa'd bin 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned our name at the fourth place; saddle my donkey (I will go and complain to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him). But his nephew said to him: Will you object to the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? It is enough of an honor for you that you are in the fourth place.
