Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was very fond of sweet things and honey. After performing the Asr prayer, he would visit his wives and go to them. Once, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) and stayed there a little longer than usual. When I inquired about the reason, I was told that a woman from Sayyida Hafsa’s tribe had gifted her a large jar of honey. She had given some of that honey to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to drink. I thought, “By Allah! We must make some plan regarding this.” So I mentioned this to Sayyida Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her). I said to her, “When the Messenger of Allah comes to you and draws near to you, say: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Did you eat Maghafir?’ If he says no, then you should say: ‘Then what is this smell coming from you?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) could not bear that any kind of odor should come from him. He will say: ‘Hafsa gave me honey to drink.’ Then you should say: ‘Perhaps the honeybee sat on the Maghafir tree.’ When he comes to me, I will also say the same thing to him. And Safiyya, when the Messenger of Allah comes to you, you should also say the same to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”

So when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Sayyida Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her), she narrates: “By the One in whose hand is my soul! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was still at the door when, out of fear of you, I was about to hastily say to him what you had told me.” In any case, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came, I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Did you eat Maghafir?” He said: “No.” I said: “Then what is this smell?” He said: “Hafsa gave me honey to drink.” I said: “Perhaps the honeybee sat on the Maghafir.” Similarly, when he came to me, I said the same thing. After that, when he went to Sayyida Safiyya (may Allah be pleased with her), she also said the same thing to him. Later, when he went to Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: “O Messenger of Allah! Shall I not give you that honey to drink?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No, I have no need for it.” Sayyida Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) says: “Glory be to Allah! We have deprived him of that honey.” So I said to her: “Be quiet.”

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the iqamah for prayer had been pronounced or the time for the iqamah had come, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was having a discussion with his wives, and he (peace be upon him) was trying to separate them from one another. In the meantime, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and said: O Messenger of Allah! Put dust in their mouths and proceed for the prayer.
