Hadith 11301
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were one hundred and thirty men in the company of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Does anyone have any food? One man had about one sa’ of food, so its dough was kneaded. After that, a polytheist man came driving some goats, his hair was disheveled and scattered. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Will you sell the goats or give them as a gift? He said: Not as a gift or donation, but I will sell them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought a goat from him, it was slaughtered and prepared. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered its liver, kidneys, etc. to be roasted. By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set aside a portion of the goat’s liver for every man; whoever was present was given it, and for whoever was not present, it was set aside. Two trays of the goat’s meat were prepared. We all ate to our fill and meat was still left in both trays. Then we loaded the leftover food onto a camel.
Hadith 11302
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that one day I brought dates to the service of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and submitted: O Messenger of Allah, pray for blessing in these dates for me. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, spread those dates before him and then prayed. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: Put these dates in a leather bag. To take out dates, put your hand inside and take them out, and do not turn it over and shake it out. Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I gave away so many wasqs (one wasq is sixty sa’ and one sa’ is approximately two kilograms and one hundred grams) in the way of Allah from that bag. We ourselves ate from it and fed others as well. That bag never left my waist. But when the tragedy of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, occurred, it was cut from my waist and fell (and was lost).
Hadith 11303
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went on an expedition. During this time, the Muslims ran out of provisions and became needy for food. They sought permission from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to slaughter their camels. He, peace and blessings be upon him, granted them permission. When Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, learned of this, he came and said: O Messenger of Allah! These camels carry the Muslims to the enemy, so should they slaughter them? O Messenger of Allah! Instead, if you gather whatever leftover provisions people have and pray to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, for blessing in it, that would be more appropriate. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: That is correct. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked the people for whatever leftover provisions they had. Whatever things people had left, they brought them. He, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered them all in one place and prayed to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, for blessing in them. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, had their vessels (and bags, etc.) brought and filled them with food, and much food was left over. On this occasion, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that I am Allah’s servant and His Messenger. Whoever meets Allah sincerely bearing witness to these two statements, without any doubt in them, will enter Paradise.
Hadith 11304
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) or Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) (this doubt occurred to A'mash) that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the people faced severe hunger. Then a hadith similar to the previous hadith was mentioned.
Hadith 11305
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Amrah Ansari narrates from his father that he was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a battle. During this time, the people faced severe hunger. The people asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for permission to slaughter some of the riding camels and said that only Allah knows if we will reach our next destination. But when Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saw that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was about to permit them to slaughter some camels, he said: O Messenger of Allah! What will become of us tomorrow if we are hungry or have to face the enemy on foot? Instead, if you deem it appropriate, ask the people to bring whatever food and drink they have left. We will gather these items in one place. You pray to Allah Almighty for blessing in them; Allah Almighty will bless us through your prayer. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked the people to bring whatever food and drink they had left. People began to bring a handful of food or a little more; the most anyone brought was a sa’ of dates. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered all these items and, standing, prayed to Allah Almighty as much as was due for His pleasure. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, called the army to bring their own vessels (bags, sacks, etc.) and fill them with food. All the vessels in the entire army were filled with food, and just as much food remained. Seeing this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, smiled with such joy that his molar teeth became visible. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I am the Messenger of Allah. Whoever meets Allah Almighty with testimony and heartfelt affirmation of these two things, the Fire will be kept away from him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 11306
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) took half a mudd of barley, then picked up a leather container for ghee, in which there was a little ghee. She made a kind of porridge from it, then sent me to invite the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When I reached the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was sitting among the Companions. I said: Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) has sent me; she is inviting you to eat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Me and these companions of mine as well? Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions came. I went home and said to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions are coming. Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) went out and began to walk alongside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! This is only porridge, which Umm Sulaym has prepared from half a mudd of barley (this amount is not enough for so many people to eat). In any case, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered, and the food was presented before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his blessed hand in it and said: Call in ten people. So ten people came and ate to their fill, then another ten came, and they too ate to their fill, then another ten came, then another ten came, until forty people ate to their fill, and the food remained as it was, just as before, then we, the household, ate it as well.
Hadith 11307
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he was present in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when a bowl of tharid (a dish in which bread is soaked and softened in broth and then eaten) was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and others ate from it, and people continued eating until the time of Zuhr. When one group finished eating and got up, another group would come and eat. A person asked Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Was more food being added to the dish? He replied: Nothing was added from the earth, but it is possible that it was being increased from the heavens.
Hadith 11308
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Dakin bin Sa’id Khath’ami (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We, four hundred and forty men, came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We requested food from you. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): Get up and provide them with food. He submitted: O Messenger of Allah! I have only as much food as is sufficient for me and my children for just four months. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Get up and give them food. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Heard and obeyed (i.e., your command is upon my eyes and head). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and we also stood up with him, he took us with him towards the upper chamber. He took out the key from his waist and opened the door. Sayyiduna Dakin (may Allah be pleased with him) says that there were some weak quality dates lying in his room. He said: Take as much as you want from here, each of us took dates from there according to our need, I was the last among them. I observed and felt as if we had not decreased even a single date from his dates.
Hadith 11309
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Muqarrin (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Four hundred men from the tribe of Banu Muzaynah presented themselves before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered people on our behalf. Some people said: O Messenger of Allah! We do not have food available to give them. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): Provide them with food. He said: I have only some inferior dates, and I think they will not suffice for them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Go and give it to them. He took us with him to an upper room, where there were dates of a dusty color. He said: Take from here. People took dates according to their needs, and I was the last among them. I observed and realized that we had not even emptied a space equal to one date, even though four hundred people had taken dates from there.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: Say to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that if possible, please come and eat food at our place. I went and conveyed this message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And what about those who are with me? I said: Yes, them too. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People! Get up. I went and told Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) the whole matter. I was afraid of those people who were coming along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that how would the food suffice for so many people. Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Anas! What have you done? In the meantime, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you have any ghee? She replied: Yes! I had a leather container, in which there was some ghee. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring that container. Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I presented that container to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) opened its lid and said: Bismillah, O Allah! Bless it abundantly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now turn this container over. She turned it over. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) squeezed it well while taking the name of Allah, and she put all that ghee into the pot. More than eighty people ate from it and plenty of food was left over. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed that pot to Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Here, you eat as well and feed your neighbors too.
Hadith 11311
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) brought two handfuls of barley and ordered that food be prepared from it, then said to me: Anas! Go and call the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you know that the food is very little. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I reached the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the noble Companions were also with him. I submitted that Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) invites you to eat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and ordered the people to stand up as well. They also stood up. I walked ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and reached Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him of the situation (that all the people are coming). He said: Today you have put us to shame. I said that I could not refuse the word of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the door, he ordered the Companions to sit there and he himself entered with nine Companions. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered and the food was presented, he and those with him ate to their fill, then he said to them: You get up and let another ten people come in your place. This continued until all the people came and ate the food. Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) what was the number of the Companions that day? He replied that they were more than eighty individuals. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that even then so much food was left that it satisfied the household.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were working in the trench along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I had a small, healthy goat of young age. I thought that we should cook this goat for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to eat. I instructed my wife, so she ground some barley and prepared flour, and baked bread for us. The goat was slaughtered and we roasted it for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When evening came and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to return from the trench, Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to work during the day and return to our families in the evening. I said: O Messenger of Allah! We had a small goat, which I have prepared for you, and there are some barley loaves as well. I wish that you would come with me to my house. Sayyiduna Jabir says: I wanted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to come with me alone, but when I made this request to him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: All right. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a caller to announce, so he announced: Go to Jabir’s house with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When I heard the announcement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I recited: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Nevertheless, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and others with him came. He (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down, and we presented the prepared food before him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) made a supplication for blessing and, taking the name of Allah, ate the food. After him, people came one after another; when one group finished and got up, another group came, until all the people of the trench had eaten.
Hadith 11313
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father was martyred on the day of Uhud. He left behind two orchards in his inheritance, and he owed a debt to a Jew in the form of dates. The Jew’s debt was even more than the yield of both orchards. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Jew: “Can you grant such a concession that you take some of the debt this year and the rest next year?” He refused. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): “When the dates ripen, inform me.” Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I informed you (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and along with him came Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). We began to harvest the fruit and the dates were weighed for the Jew beneath the date palm. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept supplicating for blessing. We paid off the entire debt to the Jew from the fruit of the smaller orchard. After that, we presented fresh dates and water to you (peace and blessings be upon him). You (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions ate the dates and drank the water. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This too is among the blessings about which you will be questioned.”
Hadith 11314
(Second chain) It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father was martyred while in debt. I went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: My father has passed away and he is in debt, while I have nothing for repayment except the dates’ fruit, and even the fruit of the dates will not cover even one-sixth of the debt. So please come with me so that the creditors do not speak harshly to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to walk around one of the piles of dates. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed and sat down. He (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired: Where are his creditors? He (peace and blessings be upon him) paid their dues in full. The amount he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them, that much fruit still remained.
Hadith 11315
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested food from him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him a wasq (i.e., sixty sa’) of barley. For a long time, that man, his wife, and their son kept eating from it. Eventually, they measured it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you had not measured it, you would have continued eating from it and it would have remained with you.
Hadith 11316
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyida Umm Malik Bahziyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to send clarified butter (ghee) as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a leather container. Once, her sons asked her for curry, but she had nothing to give them as curry. In the container in which she used to send ghee to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), she found a little ghee. For a long time, that same ghee sufficed as curry for her sons, until one day she squeezed it out completely. Then she came and mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (that the ghee in the container had finished). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Did you squeeze it out? She replied: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you had continued to use it as it was, it would never have finished for you.
