It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman brought a woven bordered sheet to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) asked his companions, “Do you know what a ‘burdah’ is?” They replied, “Yes, it is called a sheet.” He said, “Yes, that is correct.” She said, “O Messenger of Allah! I have woven this sheet with my own hands and have brought it so that I may present it to you for your wearing.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked it and accepted it, then he wore it and came to us. Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned a man by name who touched the sheet and said, “How excellent this sheet is! O Messenger of Allah! Please give it to me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Alright.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went inside, folded the sheet, and sent it to him. The people said to him, “By Allah! You did not do a good thing. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was given this sheet to wear, and he liked it, but you asked him for it, while you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) does not turn away any petitioner empty-handed.” He said, “By Allah! I did not ask for this sheet to wear it. I only asked for it so that when I die, it will be my shroud.” Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When he died, that sheet was made his shroud.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man would, according to his ability, dedicate some date trees from his orchards for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until victory was achieved over Banu Qurayza and Banu Nadir. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began returning the dates that had been given to him by the people. My family also told me that they had given dates to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and asked me to request the return of all or some of them. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already given those dates to Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) or to someone else. When I requested the dates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he gave them to me. Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) came to me, put a cloth around my neck, and said: "Never! This can never happen. By Allah, besides whom there is no deity! The Prophet of Allah has already given those dates to me, now he will not give them to you." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will give you such and such amount of dates in exchange for them." She replied: "By Allah! Never." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying, "I will give you even more dates." Until he gave them to her. Mu'tamir's father, Sulaiman bin Tarhan, states: I counted, and Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) promised an amount ten times or nearly ten times more than the original number.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I and my two companions came in such a state that due to the severity of hunger, our ears and eyes had stopped functioning (in another narration it is mentioned that we were afflicted with severe hunger). We began to present ourselves before the noble Companions (so that someone might take us as their guest), but no one was willing to take us as a guest. We went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he took us to his house. There were three (and according to one narration, four) goats present there. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Milk these goats and distribute the milk among us. So we would milk them, and each person would drink his share, and we would save the share of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) would come at some time during the night and would greet with such a voice that it would not wake a sleeping person, but a person who was awake would hear it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to his place of prayer, perform prayer, and then go to the place of milk and drink the milk. Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) says that one night Satan put a whisper in my heart that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) goes to the Ansar, they present him with gifts, and he eats and drinks something at their place, so he does not really need these few sips. What will happen if I drink it? He kept reminding me of this thought and kept making it attractive to me, until I drank the milk. When the milk reached my stomach and I was certain that there was no way for it to come out, Satan left me and fled, saying: Woe to you! What have you done? You have drunk the share of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him); when he comes and does not find the milk, he will curse you and you will be destroyed, your world will be ruined and your Hereafter will be lost. I had a small, thin sheet; if I covered my head with it, my feet would be exposed, and if I covered my feet, my head would come out of the sheet. I remained in this state of anxiety and could not sleep, while my two companions slept peacefully. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and greeted as usual, then performed prayer at his place of prayer. After that, he went to the milk, lifted the cover, and found nothing in the vessel. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head towards the sky. I thought now he will curse me and I will be destroyed. But he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Feed the one who fed me and give drink to the one who gave me drink." Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I pulled the sheet tightly over myself, grabbed a knife, and began to feel the goats to see which one was the fattest so that I could slaughter it for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw that all their udders were full of milk. I chose a vessel from the household of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in which they did not expect to find any milk. I milked into it until foam appeared on it, then I took the milk to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Miqdad! Did you people not drink milk tonight? I said: O Messenger of Allah! Please drink. He (peace and blessings be upon him) drank the milk! (That is, there was not usually so much milk that they would expect to need to pour it into that vessel, so that milk vessel would remain unused.) (Abdullah Rafiq)
And then he gave it to me. I again said: O Messenger of Allah! Please drink more. He (peace and blessings be upon him) drank and then handed the vessel to me, after which I drank what was left. When I was sure that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was fully satisfied and that I had become deserving of his supplication, I laughed so much that I fell to the ground laughing. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Miqdad! This is an inappropriate action of yours. I said: O Messenger of Allah! This is what happened to me today and I did this. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This was the mercy of Allah (and in another narration: This was a blessing sent down from the sky). Why did you not tell me earlier? We would have awakened your two companions and they too would have benefited from it. Miqdad says: I said: By the One Who has sent you with the truth! When you and I have received this blessing, I do not care whether anyone else gets it or not. In another narration, the words are: When you and I have received this blessing, I do not care who has been deprived of it.

(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I and two friends with me, all of us went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we were extremely hungry, we went before the people but no one hosted us, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took us to his house, he (peace and blessings be upon him) had four goats, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Miqdad! You divide the milk of these goats into four portions among us. So I used to divide that milk among the four of us. One night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was occupied somewhere. I thought in my heart that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) must have gone to the house of some Ansari, he must have eaten and drunk to his fill at their place, if I drink the portion of milk of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), it would not matter. From here onwards, it is similar to the previous hadith.

(Third chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When we came to Madinah Munawwarah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made groups of ten among us and made each group guests of a household. I was in the group of ten in which the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also present. We had only one goat, and we used to wait for its milk. If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delayed, we would drink the milk and keep his share for him. One night, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come for quite a while. (After this, the hadith is similar to the previous narration, but in this version:) Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I took a knife and went towards the goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the matter? I said: I am going to slaughter it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, do not slaughter it, bring it to me. I brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he touched its udders, then extracted some milk from it, and after drinking that milk, he (peace and blessings be upon him) went to sleep.

Sayyiduna Laqit bin Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was included in the delegation of Banu Muntafiq, narrates: He says, I and a friend of mine went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but we could not meet him. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) gave us dates to eat and also presented us with halwa made of flour and ghee. Meanwhile, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, walking like a young man. As soon as he arrived, he inquired, "Have you people eaten or drunk anything?" We replied, "O Messenger of Allah! Yes." While we were sitting there, a shepherd of goats was standing in the enclosure holding a kid goat in his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Has the goat given birth?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then now slaughter a goat for us." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us and said, "Do not think that we are slaughtering a goat for your sake. We have one hundred goats, we do not want more than that. Whenever any goat among them gives birth, we order the shepherd to slaughter one goat." Sayyiduna Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Inform us about the matters of ablution." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "When you perform ablution, wash all the limbs thoroughly, do khilal (interlacing) of the fingers, and when you put water in your nose, do so thoroughly, except if you are in a state of fasting (i.e., do not exaggerate in putting water in the nose while performing ablution during fasting)." He asked, "O Messenger of Allah! My wife is very foul-mouthed and keeps causing me harm. (What should I do?) She has been with me for a long time and is also the mother of my children." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then keep her under control and keep advising her. If there is any good in her, she will understand, and if you have to hit her, then do not hit her like slaves are beaten."
