It is narrated from Abu Hurrah Raqashi, who narrates from his uncle, he said: During the days of Tashreeq, I was holding the reins of the camel of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, keeping people away from him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O people! Do you know in which month, on which day, and in which city you are at this time? The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, replied: We are in a sacred day, in a sacred month, and in a sacred city. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Your blood, your wealth, and your honor are forbidden to one another until the Day of Judgment, just as the sanctity of this day, in this month, and in this city is forbidden. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Listen to my words, you will live after me, beware! Do not oppress anyone, beware! Do not commit excess, beware! Do not commit injustice, no one's wealth is lawful for another except with his heartfelt consent. Beware! Every blood, wealth, and boastful matter of the Age of Ignorance is now under my feet until the Day of Judgment. Rabee'ah bin Harith bin Abdul Muttalib, who was being raised among Banu Laith and was killed by Banu Huzail, we were to take revenge for him, but I am the first to forgive his killing. And every usury of the Age of Ignorance is forgiven, and Allah Almighty has decided this. The first usury I forgive is that of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, which he was to collect from people. You may take your principal amounts. You have no right to oppress anyone, nor does anyone have the right to oppress you. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, recited this verse: {إِنَّ عِدَّۃَ الشُّہُورِ عِنْدَ اللّٰہِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَہْرًا فِی کِتَابِ اللّٰہِ یَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ مِنْہَا أَرْبَعَۃٌ حُرُمٌ ذَلِکَ الدِّینُ الْقَیِّمُ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا فِیہِنَّ أَنْفُسَکُمْ} … Since the day Allah created the heavens and the earth, indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so do not wrong yourselves therein. (Surah At-Tawbah: 36) Beware! Do not turn back after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another. Beware! Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray, but he will continue to sow discord and enmity among you. Fear Allah regarding women. They are your servants. They have no control over themselves. Indeed, they have many rights over you and you have many rights over them. Their responsibility is that they do not allow anyone you dislike to sit on your bed, and do not allow anyone you dislike to enter your house. If you fear disobedience from your wives, first admonish them, then separate from their beds, and if you beat them, do not beat them severely. Humaid says: I asked Hasan Basri what is meant by "severely"? He said: Do not beat them so much that marks appear on their bodies. Their right is that you provide them food and clothing in a reasonable manner or according to your ability. You have taken them as a trust from Allah. And you have made their private parts lawful for yourselves according to the religion of Allah. If anyone among you is entrusted with a trust by someone, he should return it. Then he said: Beware! Have I conveyed the message of Allah to you? Beware! Have I conveyed the religion of Allah to you? Then he said: Those who are present here should convey these words to those who are not present. Sometimes it happens that those to whom the message is conveyed understand and remember it better than those who heard it directly. Humaid narrated that when Hasan Basri reached this statement, he said: By Allah, the Companions conveyed these words to such people who understood and remembered them better.
