بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي قُدُوْم جَرِيرِ بن عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رضي الله عنه إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَبَيْعَتِهِ وَإِسْلَامِهِ
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Arrival of Jarir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Medina, His Pledge, and His Acceptance of Islam
Hadith 10963
عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ قَالَ وَقَالَ جَرِيرٌ لَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَنَخْتُ رَاحِلَتِي ثُمَّ حَلَلْتُ عَيْبَتِي ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ حُلَّتِي ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَرَمَانِي النَّاسُ بِالْحَدَقِ فَقُلْتُ لِجَلِيسِي يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ذَكَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ ذَكَرَكَ آنِفًا بِأَحْسَنِ ذِكْرٍ فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ عَرَضَ لَهُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ وَقَالَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ أَوْ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ مِنْ خَيْرِ ذِي يَمَنٍ إِلَّا أَنَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ مَسْحَةَ مَلَكٍ قَالَ جَرِيرٌ فَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى مَا أَبْلَانِي وَقَالَ أَبُو قَطَنٍ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْهُ أَوْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ
It is narrated from Mughira bin Shubal that Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: When I approached Madinah Munawwarah, I made my mount sit down, unpacked my belongings and set them aside, and donned splendid clothes. Then I entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. People looked at me intently. I asked the man sitting near me whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had mentioned me. He replied: Yes, just now he remembered you in very beautiful words. While delivering the sermon, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned you and said: From this door or from this path, a man from among the distinguished people of Yemen is about to enter upon you, and on his face is the dignity of kings. Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I thanked Allah Almighty for this honor.
Hadith 10964
عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَنَخْتُ رَاحِلَتِي ثُمَّ حَلَلْتُ عَيْبَتِي ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ حُلَّتِي قَالَ فَدَخَلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَمَانِي الْقَوْمُ بِالْحَدَقِ فَقُلْتُ لِجَلِيسِي هَلْ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَمْرِي شَيْئًا فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when I reached near Madinah Munawwarah, I made my mount sit down, took off my lower garment, put on a cloak, and presented myself in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon at that time. People began to look at me with the corners of their eyes. I asked the man sitting next to me, "O servant of Allah! Has the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned me?" ...Then after that, it was narrated as in the previous hadith.
Hadith 10965
عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى إِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَعَلَى فِرَاقِ الشِّرْكِ أَوْ كَلِمَةٍ مَعْنَاهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for establishing prayer, paying zakat, wishing well for every Muslim, and completely abstaining from shirk.
Hadith 10966
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اشْتَرِطْ عَلَيَّ قَالَ تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ وَتَنْصَحُ الْمُسْلِمَ وَتَبْرَأُ مِنَ الْكَافِرِ
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Impose a condition upon me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Worship Allah, do not associate anything with Him, perform the obligatory prayers, pay the obligatory zakat, be sincere to every Muslim, and disassociate from the disbelievers.
