Hadith 10958
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I went on an expedition towards Yemen in the company of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). I observed some strictness in his behavior. So when I came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I mentioned Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) before him and spoke some inappropriate words about him. Then I saw that the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to change, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Buraidah! Do I not have more right over the believers than their own selves? I said: Why not, O Messenger of Allah. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whomever I am the master of, Ali is also his master. The words of another narration are: Whomever I am the friend of, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is also his friend.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: My father, Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated to me, he says: I had intense hatred for Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), more than for anyone else, to the extent that I had great love for a man from the Quraysh only because he harbored hatred for Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). That man was appointed as the commander of an army, and I accompanied him only because he hated Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). We obtained female captives; the commander of the army sent a message to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to send us someone who would divide the spoils of war into five parts and distribute them. You sent Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to us; he divided the spoils into five parts and then distributed them. Among the captive women was a slave girl who was the best among all the captives. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) made five parts of the spoils of war and then distributed them. When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came out, drops of water were falling from his head and his head was covered. We said: O Abu Hasan! What is this matter? He said: Did you not see that this slave girl came into my share among the captives? I divided the spoils of war into five parts and distributed them; she came in the fifth part, which is for the Ahl al-Bayt of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then among the Ahl al-Bayt, a share is for the family of Ali, and this slave girl came into my share from that, and I had intercourse with her. The man who hated Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said to him: Send me with this letter; he sent me so that I could confirm and support what was written. Sayyiduna Buraidah says: I began to read that letter to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Whatever is written in it is correct. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the letter from my hand and took my hand and said: Do you harbor hatred for Ali? I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not hate Ali, and if you love him, then increase in that love. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the share of the family of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the khums is greater than even this best slave girl. Sayyiduna Buraidah says: After this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there was no one among the people more beloved to me than him. Abdullah bin Buraidah says: By Allah, besides Whom there is no deity! Between me narrating this hadith and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there is only my father, Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Abdullah bin Buraidah narrates from his father Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent two detachments towards Yemen. Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was appointed as the commander of one detachment, and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) was appointed as the commander of the other. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you meet together, Ali will be the leader over all the people, and if you are separated, then each of you will be the commander over his own army. Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we encountered the tribe of Banu Zayd of the people of Yemen and fought with them. The Muslims prevailed over the polytheists; we killed the fighting men and took the women and children as captives. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) chose one of the captive women for himself. Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that upon this situation, Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to inform him. I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and handed over that letter to him. When the letter was read before him, I saw signs of anger on the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: O Messenger of Allah! This is the place of one seeking refuge, meaning I seek forgiveness from you for any disrespect. You sent me under the command of a person and made it obligatory for me to obey him. I only did what I was sent for, meaning I did not make any mistake. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not find fault with Ali in any way. He is from me and I am from him, and after me, he will be your friend. He is from me and I am from him, and after me, he will be your friend.
