بَابُ الَّذِيْنَ يَقُوْلُوْنَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ صَلَّى فِيْ بَيْتِ اللهِ
Chapter on Those Who Say That the Prophet ﷺ Prayed in the House of Allah
Hadith 10870
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لِأُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ حَتَّى أَنَاخَ بِفِنَاءِ الْكَعْبَةِ فَدَعَا عُثْمَانَ بْنَ طَلْحَةَ بِالْمِفْتَاحِ فَجَاءَ بِهِ فَفَتَحَ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُسَامَةُ وَبِلَالٌ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ فَأَجَافُوا عَلَيْهِمُ الْبَابَ مَلِيًّا ثُمَّ فَتَحُوهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فَبَادَرْتُ النَّاسَ فَوَجَدْتُ بِلَالًا عَلَى الْبَابِ قَائِمًا فَقُلْتُ أَيْنَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ بَيْنَ الْعَمُودَيْنِ الْمُقَدَّمَيْنِ قَالَ وَنَسِيتُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَهُ كَمْ صَلَّى
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah riding on the camel of Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), and advanced until he made it sit in the courtyard of the Ka'bah. Then he called for Uthman bin Talhah to bring the key of the House of Allah. So he brought the key, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) opened the door of the House of Allah and entered inside. Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), (and according to one narration, Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)) entered the House of Allah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They kept the door closed for quite some time. After that, when it was opened, I (Abdullah bin Umar) quickly moved ahead of the people and found Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) standing near the door. I asked him, "At which place did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform the prayer?" He informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prayer between the two pillars in front, but I forgot to ask how many units (rak‘ahs) he had performed.
Hadith 10871
((وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) بِنَحْوِهِ وَفِيهِ) فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ سَأَلْتُ بِلَالًا مَاذَا صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ تَرَكَ عَمُودَيْنِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَمُودًا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَثَلَاثَةَ أَعْمِدَةٍ خَلْفَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَبَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَذْرُعٍ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ وَكَانَ الْبَيْتُ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى سِتَّةِ أَعْمِدَةٍ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الَّذِي بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ
(Second chain of narration) A similar hadith is narrated, except that in it: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the House of Allah, I asked Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did inside the House of Allah. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and prayed in such a way that out of the three pillars in front, two pillars were on his right side, one pillar was on his left side, and the three pillars at the back were left behind him. There was a distance of about three hand spans between him and the wall of the Qiblah. Ishaq, the narrator, stated that in those days the structure of the House of Allah was based on six pillars. This narrator did not mention the distance between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Qiblah.
Hadith 10872
عَنْ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ حَاجًّا فَدَخَلْتُ الْبَيْتَ فَلَمَّا كُنْتُ عِنْدَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ مَضَيْتُ حَتَّى لَزِقْتُ بِالْحَائِطِ قَالَ وَجَاءَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ حَتَّى قَامَ إِلَى جَنْبِي فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعًا قَالَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قُلْتُ لَهُ أَيْنَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ قَالَ فَقَالَ هَاهُنَا أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى قَالَ قُلْتُ فَكَمْ صَلَّى قَالَ عَلَى هَذَا أَجِدُنِي أَلُومُ نَفْسِي أَنِّي مَكَثْتُ مَعَهُ عُمُرًا ثُمَّ لَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ كَمْ صَلَّى فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْعَامُ الْمُقْبِلُ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ حَاجًّا قَالَ فَجِئْتُ حَتَّى قُمْتُ فِي مَقَامِهِ قَالَ فَجَاءَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ حَتَّى قَامَ إِلَى جَنْبِي فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُزَاحِمُنِي حَتَّى أَخْرَجَنِي مِنْهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى فِيهِ أَرْبَعًا
It is narrated from Abu Sha’tha, he says: I went with the intention of Hajj and also entered the House of Allah (the Ka’bah). When I reached between the two pillars, I kept moving forward until I reached the wall. Then Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came; he came and stood by my side and performed four rak’ahs. When he finished the prayer, I asked him: At which place inside the House of Allah did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform the prayer? He replied: At this place, that is, where he himself had performed the prayer. Furthermore, he said that Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) had informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed prayer inside the House of Allah. Abu Sha’tha says: I asked him how many rak’ahs did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform? He said: I blame myself for this, that I spent a long time with Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him), but I could not ask him how many rak’ahs the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed. When the next year came and I again went for Hajj and was performing prayer at the place of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), then Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) came and stood by my side; he kept pushing me until he made me leave from there, then he performed four rak’ahs.
Hadith 10873
حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ حَجَّ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ أَنِ افْتَحْ بَابَ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ عَلَيَّ بِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ هَلْ بَلَغَكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْكَعْبَةَ فَتَأَخَّرَ خُرُوجُهُ فَوَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا فَذَهَبْتُ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ سَرِيعًا فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَارِجًا فَسَأَلْتُ بِلَالَ بْنَ رَبَاحٍ هَلْ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَيْنَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ فَقَامَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَصَلَّى بَيْنَهُمَا
It is narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaika that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came for Hajj and he sent a message to Shaybah bin Uthman to open the door of the Ka'bah. Then he said, "Call Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to me." Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "Is it known to you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer inside the Ka'bah?" He said, "Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the Ka'bah, and when he delayed in coming out, I felt something, so I went and then quickly returned, but I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had already come out. I asked Sayyiduna Bilal bin Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform prayer inside the House of Allah?' He said, 'Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak'ahs between two pillars.'" So Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and performed prayer between the two pillars.
Hadith 10874
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ فَدَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَيْنَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ صَلَّى بَيْنَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ بِحَيَالِ الْبَابِ فَجَاءَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ فَرَجَّ الْبَابَ رَجًّا شَدِيدًا فَفُتِحَ لَهُ فَقَالَ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ أَمَا أَنَّكَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَعْلَمُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ وَلَكِنَّكَ حَسَدْتَنِي
(Second chain of narration) Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Makkah Mukarramah and was about to enter the Ka'bah. He sent a message to Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and inquired: At which place did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offer prayer? He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered prayer between the two pillars in front of the door. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and knocked loudly on the door of the House of Allah, so the door was opened for him. He said to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): You know that I also know this matter just as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) does, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was jealous of me (and did not call me).
Hadith 10875
عَنْ سِمَاكٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي الْبَيْتِ وَسَتَأْتُونَ مَنْ يَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَتَسْمَعُونَ مِنْهُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ فَتَسْمَعُونَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ جَالِسٌ قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ
It is narrated from Simak Hanafi, who says: I heard Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer inside the House of Allah (the Ka'bah). Soon, some people will come who will prevent you from performing prayer inside the House of Allah. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting nearby; Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) pointed towards him and said: You will hear the same thing from him as well.
Hadith 10876
عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْبَيْتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed prayer in the House of Allah (the Ka'bah).
