It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jundub bin Makith Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent Sayyiduna Ghalib bin Abdullah Kalbi Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) to attack the tribe of Banu Muluh, who were residing at the place of Kudayd. So he set out, and I was also included in that army. As we were traveling, when we reached the place of Kudayd, we encountered Harith bin Malik bin Barsaa Laithi. We captured him. He said: I have come to accept Islam. Sayyiduna Ghalib bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you have come with the intention of accepting Islam, then a day's and night's imprisonment will not harm you, and if you have some other plan, we will investigate about it. So Sayyiduna Ghalib (may Allah be pleased with him) imprisoned him and appointed a black man who was with us to guard him, and said: Stay with him until we return, and if he quarrels with you, cut off his head. After that, we set out from there and reached the middle of Kudayd, and after Asr we camped at Ashishiyah. My companions assigned me the duty of keeping watch. I went towards a mound from where I could see the people present here and there. I lay down on the mound. The time of Maghrib had come. One of them came out, and when he saw me lying on the mound, he said to his wife: I see a figure on the mound which I did not see during the day. Be careful, could it be a dog? And have your utensils not been taken? She looked around and said: By Allah! I do not find anything missing. He said: Well, bring me two arrows from my bow and quiver. She brought him the arrows and the bow. He shot an arrow at me and it stuck in my side. I pulled it out and put it aside, and did not move at all. He shot a second arrow and it stuck in the upper part of my shoulder. I pulled it out and put it aside, and did not move at all. He said to his wife: By Allah! Both my arrows have hit him. If it were a living thing, it would surely have moved. In the morning, look for both my arrows and do not let them be left for the dogs. We gave those people respite until their animals returned home in the evening, and they milked the animals and settled in their places and part of the night passed. Then we attacked them. We killed as many of them as we could and took the animals and set off. And we returned. Meanwhile, cries and shouts began to rise from those people as if someone was calling for help. We kept moving quickly until we reached Harith bin Barsaa and his companion. We took them along with us. The cries and shouts of the people were reaching us. The situation became such that we did not have the courage to face it. Until there remained only a valley between us and them, suddenly a strong flood came between them and us. Allah Almighty sent it from wherever He willed. Before its arrival, we had neither seen rain nor clouds. The flood was so strong that no man could stand before it. We saw the people of Banu Muluh standing helplessly on the other side of the flood, looking towards us. None of them had the courage to advance, and we were crossing it quickly. Until we reached along with it to Jabal Mushallal. After that, we turned aside and took another route. The spoils of war that we had obtained from those people, we made them unable to recover it from us.
