Chapter on the Expulsion of the Remaining Jews from Medina and Allowing Them to Stay in Khaybar After Its Conquest for the Sake of Benefit
Hadith 10821
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى يَهُودَ فَخَرَجْنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى جِئْنَا بَيْتَ الْمِدْرَاسِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَادَاهُمْ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْيَهُودِ أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا فَقَالُوا قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ ذَاكَ أُرِيدُ ثُمَّ قَالَهَا الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ اعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُجْلِيَكُمْ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَرْضِ فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْكُمْ بِمَالِهِ شَيْئًا فَلْيَبِعْهُ وَإِلَّا فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَسُولِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: Let us go to the Jews. So we went with him and reached their Bayt al-Madras. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood there and said to those Jews: O Jews! Accept Islam, you will find peace. They said: O Abu al-Qasim! You have conveyed your message to us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I also want you to acknowledge that I have indeed conveyed my message to you. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said for the third time: Remember that this land belongs to Allah and His Messenger, and I want to expel you from this land. So whoever among you can sell his property, let him sell it, otherwise remember that this land belongs to Allah and His Messenger.
Hadith 10822
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَجْلَى الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحِجَازِ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا ظَهَرَ عَلَى خَيْبَرَ أَرَادَ إِخْرَاجَ الْيَهُودِ مِنْهَا وَكَانَتْ الْأَرْضُ حِينَ ظَهَرَ عَلَيْهَا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى وَلِرَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلِلْمُسْلِمِينَ فَأَرَادَ إِخْرَاجَ الْيَهُودِ مِنْهَا فَسَأَلَتِ الْيَهُودُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقِرَّهُمْ بِهَا عَلَى أَنْ يَكْفُوا عَمَلَهَا وَلَهُمْ نِصْفُ الثَّمَرِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نُقِرُّكُمْ بِهَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ مَا شِئْنَا فَقَرُّوا بِهَا حَتَّى أَجْلَاهُمْ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِلَى تَيْمَاءَ وَأَرِيحَاءَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) exiled the Jews and Christians from the land of Hijaz. The actual incident is as follows: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gained dominance over Khaybar, he intended to expel the Jews from there, because when he (peace and blessings be upon him) took control of that area, the land became the property of Allah Almighty, His Messenger, and the Muslims. In any case, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to remove and exile the Jews from there, but they requested the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to allow them to stay there, saying that the Jews would continue to perform all the work and services of the lands and orchards, and in return, they would receive half of the fruits, while the other half would belong to the Muslims. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As long as we wish, you will be allowed to stay here. Then those people remained there until Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) exiled them towards Tayma and Ariha.
