بَابُ خَيْرِ الشَّاةِ الْمَسْمُوْمَةِ الَّتِي أَهْدَاهَا الْيَهُودُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِيَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا وَظُهُورٍ مُعْجِزَةٍ لَهُ
Chapter on the Poisoned Sheep Gifted by the Jews to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for Him to Eat From, and the Manifestation of a Miracle
Hadith 10819
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ لَمَّا فُتِحَتْ خَيْبَرُ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَاةٌ فِيهَا سُمٌّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اجْمَعُوا لِي مَنْ كَانَ هَاهُنَا مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَجُمِعُوا لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي سَائِلُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْهُ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ أَبُوكُمْ قَالُوا أَبُونَا فُلَانٌ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَبْتُمْ أَبُوكُمْ فُلَانٌ قَالُوا صَدَقْتَ وَبَرَرْتَ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْ شَيْءٍ سَأَلْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ وَإِنْ كَذَبْنَاكَ عَرَفْتَ كَذِبَنَا كَمَا عَرَفْتَهُ فِي أَبِينَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ أَهْلُ النَّارِ قَالُوا نَكُونُ فِيهَا يَسِيرًا ثُمَّ تَخْلُفُونَنَا فِيهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا نَخْلُفُكُمْ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْ شَيْءٍ سَأَلْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَقَالَ هَلْ جَعَلْتُمْ فِي هَذِهِ الشَّاةِ سُمًّا قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَمَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَالُوا أَرَدْنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ كَاذِبًا نَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ نَبِيًّا لَمْ تَضُرَّكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Khaybar was conquered, a poisoned goat was sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from the Jews. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Gather all the Jews who are here. So they were gathered. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: I am going to ask you about something; will you tell me the truth about it? They said: Yes, O Abu al-Qasim! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them: Who is your father? They replied: Our father is so-and-so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are lying; your father is so-and-so. Hearing this, they said: You have spoken the truth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) then said to them: I am going to ask you about something; will you tell me the truth? They said: Yes, O Abu al-Qasim! And if we lie to you, you will surely find out, just as you have found out about our father. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who are the people of the Fire? They said: We will remain in it for a while, and after us, you people will enter it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After you, we will never enter it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: I am going to ask you about something; will you tell me the truth? They said: Yes, O Abu al-Qasim! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Did you put poison in this goat? They said: Yes, we did. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What made you do this? They said: We thought that if you are a liar, we will be relieved of you, and if you are a true Prophet, then it will not harm you.
Hadith 10820
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْيَهُودِ أَهْدَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَاةً مَسْمُومَةً فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَ مَا حَمَلَكِ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتِ قَالَتْ أَحْبَبْتُ أَوْ أَرَدْتُ إِنْ كُنْتَ نَبِيًّا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيُطْلِعُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ نَبِيًّا أُرِيحُ النَّاسَ مِنْكَ قَالَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا احْتَجَمَ قَالَ فَسَافَرَ مَرَّةً فَلَمَّا أَحْرَمَ وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَاحْتَجَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish woman presented a poisoned goat as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he came to know of it, he sent for her and asked: "What made you do this act?" She said: "I intended that if you are a true Prophet, Allah the Exalted would inform you about it, and if you are not a true Prophet, then in this way I would relieve the people of you." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) later felt the effect of that poison, he would have cupping done. Once, while he was on a journey and had entered the state of Ihram, he felt the effect of that poison, so he had cupping done.
