بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي تَارِيخ غَزْوَةِ بَدْرٍ وَعَدَدِ رِجَالِهَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ وَ وَأُمُورٍ مُتَفَرِّقَةٍ تَتَعَلَّقُ بِهَا
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the date of the Battle of Badr, the number of its fighters from the Muhajirun and Ansar, and various related matters
Hadith 10715
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ أَهْلَ بَدْرٍ كَانُوا ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ وَثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا وَكَانَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ سِتَّةً وَسَبْعِينَ وَكَانَ هَزِيمَةُ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ لِسَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ مَضَيْنَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the total number of the people of Badr was three hundred and thirteen, among whom seventy-six (76) were Muhajirun. The disbelievers were defeated on the seventeenth of Ramadan, on a Friday.
Hadith 10716
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ فَرَغَ مِنْ بَدْرٍ عَلَيْكَ الْعِيرَ لَيْسَ دُونَهَا شَيْءٌ قَالَ فَنَادَاهُ الْعَبَّاسُ وَهُوَ أَسِيرٌ فِي وَثَاقِهِ لَا يَصْلُحُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِمَ قَالَ لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ وَعَدَكَ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ وَقَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of Badr, someone said to him: "Will you pursue the caravan of Abu Sufyan? Now no one will be able to resist you." But Abbas, who was a prisoner at that time and was tied up, said: "Now it is not befitting for you to pursue Abu Sufyan." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Why is that?" He replied: "Allah Almighty had promised you one of the two groups, and according to His promise, He has granted you dominance over one group."
Hadith 10717
عَنْ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا الْتَقَيْنَا نَحْنُ وَالْقَوْمُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَنَا إِذَا أَكْثَبُوكُمْ يَعْنِي غَشُوكُمْ فَارْمُوهُمْ بِالنَّبْلِ وَأُرَاهُ قَالَ وَاسْتَبْقُوا نَبْلَكُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: On the day of Badr, when we confronted the disbelievers, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: When the enemy advances upon you, that is, comes very close, then shoot arrows at them. And I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said that instead of shooting arrows blindly, shoot them with caution.
Hadith 10718
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ صَفَفْنَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَنَدَرَتْ مِنَّا نَادِرَةٌ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ فَبَدَرَتْ مِنَّا بَادِرَةٌ) أَمَامَ الصَّفِّ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ مَعِي مَعِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr, when we formed ranks, some of us who were hasty went ahead of the row. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) looked towards them and said: Stay with me.
Hadith 10719
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ غَشِيَنَا النُّعَاسُ وَنَحْنُ فِي مَصَافِّنَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ غَشِيَهُ النُّعَاسُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَجَعَلَ سَيْفِي يَسْقُطُ مِنْ يَدِي وَآخُذُهُ وَيَسْقُطُ وَآخُذُهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Badr, we were in the battlefield when drowsiness overcame us. He says: I was also among those people that day who were overtaken by drowsiness. My sword kept slipping from my hand again and again, and I kept trying to hold it.
Hadith 10720
عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ اسْتَصْغَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا وَابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فَرُدِدْنَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) considered me and Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to be underage and sent us back from the battle.
Hadith 10721
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ صُعَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَالَ حِينَ الْتَقَى الْقَوْمُ اللَّهُمَّ أَقْطَعَنَا الرَّحِمَ وَأَتَانَا بِمَا لَا نَعْرِفُهُ فَأَحِنْهُ الْغَدَاةَ فَكَانَ الْمُسْتَفْتِحُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Tha’laba bin Sa’eer (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr, when the disbelievers and the Muslims faced each other, Abu Jahl said: “O Allah! Whichever of us has severed ties of kinship and has brought something to us which we do not recognize, then disgrace him tomorrow morning.” Thus, this very supplication of his became the starting point of victory for the Muslims.
