It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood and companionship between him and Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will divide all my wealth in half, and I have two wives; I will divorce one of them, and after her waiting period is complete, you may marry her. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah bless your family and your wealth, but I do not need these things; just show me the way to the market and bazaar. The people showed him the way to the market, and he went there. When he returned, he had some cheese and some ghee with him, which he had earned as profit. After that, on one occasion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and there was yellow color on his clothes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is this? He replied: I have married an Ansari woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What did you give her as dowry? He replied: Gold equal to the weight of a date stone. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hold a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat.
