بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي عَدْمِ انْقِطَاعِ الْهَجْرَةِ مَادَامَ الْعَدُوُّ يُقَاتَلُ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the migration not ceasing as long as the enemy is being fought
Hadith 10630
عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ يَرُدُّهُ إِلَى مَالِكِ بْنِ يَخَامِرَ عَنِ ابْنِ السَّعْدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ الْهِجْرَةُ مَا دَامَ الْعَدُوُّ يُقَاتَلُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْهِجْرَةَ خَصْلَتَانِ إِحْدَاهُمَا أَنْ تَهْجُرَ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَالْأُخْرَى أَنْ تُهَاجِرَ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَلَا تَنْقَطِعُ الْهِجْرَةُ مَا تُقُبِّلَتِ التَّوْبَةُ وَلَا تَزَالُ التَّوْبَةُ مَقْبُولَةً حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ طُبِعَ عَلَى كُلِّ قَلْبٍ بِمَا فِيهِ وَكَفَى النَّاسُ الْعَمَلَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Sa'di, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Migration will not cease until fighting with the enemy continues. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, migration is of two types: one is that you abandon evil deeds, and the other is that you migrate towards Allah Almighty and His Messenger. Migration will not cease until repentance continues to be accepted, and repentance will continue to be accepted until the sun rises from the west. When it rises from that direction, a seal will be set upon whatever is in every heart, and people will become content with their deeds.
Hadith 10631
عَنْ أَبِي هِنْدٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ وَقَدْ غَمَّضَ عَيْنَيْهِ فَتَذَاكَرْنَا الْهِجْرَةَ وَالْقَائِلُ مِنَّا يَقُولُ قَدِ انْقَطَعَتْ وَالْقَائِلُ مِنَّا يَقُولُ لَمْ تَنْقَطِعْ فَاسْتَنْبَهَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ وَكَانَ قَلِيلَ الرَّدِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ تَذَاكَرْنَا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ الْهِجْرَةُ حَتَّى تَنْقَطِعَ التَّوْبَةُ وَلَا تَنْقَطِعُ التَّوْبَةُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا
It is narrated from Abu Hind Bajali, he says: We were sitting with Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), he was sitting on his bed with his eyes closed due to drowsiness. We mentioned migration (Hijrah) there; someone said: Migration has ended, and someone said that it has not ended yet. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up and said: What were you people talking about? We explained the details to him. He used to attribute few hadiths to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), but this time he said: We were conversing in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he said: Migration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises from the west.
Hadith 10632
عَنِ ابْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ السَّعْدِيِّ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي مَالِكِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالُوا لَهُ احْفَظْ رِحَالَنَا ثُمَّ تَدْخُلُ وَكَانَ أَصْغَرَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَضَى لَهُمْ حَاجَتَهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالُوا لَهُ ادْخُلْ فَدَخَلَ فَقَالَ حَاجَتُكَ قَالَ حَاجَتِي تُحَدِّثُنِي أَنْقَضَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَاجَتُكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ حَوَائِجِهِمْ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ الْهِجْرَةُ مَا قُوتِلَ الْعَدُوُّ
A man from Banu Malik bin Hanbal, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa'di (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with a group of his companions. Since he was the youngest among the people, they said to him: "You guard our saddles and travel belongings, then come inside." So he fulfilled their need, then they said to him: "Now you may go inside." So he entered, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What is your need?" He said: "My need is that you tell me whether migration (Hijrah) has ended?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your need is better than the needs of the rest of the people. As long as fighting with the enemy continues, migration will not end."
Hadith 10633
عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ الرَّسُولِ الَّذِي سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْهِجْرَةِ فَقَالَ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ مَا جُوهِدَ الْعَدُوُّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Haywah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) about migration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Migration will not be discontinued as long as jihad against the enemy continues.
Hadith 10634
عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ أَنَّ جُنَادَةَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رِجَالًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِنَّ الْهِجْرَةَ قَدِ انْقَطَعَتْ فَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ الْهِجْرَةَ قَدِ انْقَطَعَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الْهِجْرَةَ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ مَا كَانَ الْجِهَادُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Junadah bin Abi Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a discussion arose among some of the noble Companions. Someone said that migration (Hijrah) has ended. In any case, they differed on this matter. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Some people say that migration has ended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, migration will not end as long as jihad continues.
Hadith 10635
عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ هَاجَرْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ طَلَعَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Hudaij (may Allah be pleased with him) that we migrated during the time of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), we were sitting with him, then he ascended the pulpit.
