بَابُ فِي ذِكْرِ مَنْ رَآهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَيْلَةَ الْإِسْرَاءِ وَالْمِعْرَاجِ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَآخَرِينَ مِنَ الكُفَّارِ وَالْمُدْيَبِينَ وَصِفَةِ بَعْضِهِمْ
Chapter: Mention of those whom the Prophet ﷺ saw on the night of Isra and Mi'raj from angels, prophets, and others among the disbelievers and the punished, and the description of some of them
Hadith 10572
عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى)) وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ قَالَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ وَأَنَّهُ رَأَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ آدَمَ طُوَّالًا كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى عِيسَى مَرْبُوعًا إِلَى الْحُمْرَةِ وَالْبَيَاضِ جَعْدًا وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى الدَّجَّالَ وَمَالِكًا خَازِنَ النَّارِ))
Abu Alia says: The cousin of your Prophet (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty has said that it is not permissible for any servant to say that he is better than Yunus bin Matta. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, attributed him to his father. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned that he was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), and he saw Musa (Moses), peace be upon him; he was a tall man of wheat-colored complexion, as if he was from the people of the Shanu’ah tribe. Then he mentioned Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, that he was of moderate height, his complexion was inclined towards reddish whiteness, and his body was well-built. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed that he saw the Dajjal and Malik, the keeper of Hell.
Hadith 10573
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي مُوسَى بْنَ عِمْرَانَ رَجُلًا آدَمَ طُوَّالًا جَعْدًا كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَرَأَيْتُ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ مَرْبُوعَ الْخَلْقِ إِلَى الْحُمْرَةِ وَالْبَيَاضِ سَبْطَ الرَّأْسِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The night I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), I saw Musa bin Imran (peace be upon him); he was a wheat-colored, tall man, his hair was lightly curly, and it seemed as if he was a member of the Shanu’ah tribe. And I saw Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him); he was of moderate height, his complexion was inclined towards reddish whiteness, and his hair was straight.
Hadith 10574
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((رَأَيْتُ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمُوسَى وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ فَأَمَّا عِيسَى فَأَحْمَرُ جَعْدٌ عَرِيضُ الصَّدْرِ وَأَمَّا مُوسَى فَإِنَّهُ جَسِيمٌ)) قَالُوا لَهُ فَإِبْرَاهِيمُ قَالَ ((انْظُرُوا إِلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ)) يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw ‘Isa (peace be upon him), Musa (peace be upon him), and Ibrahim (peace be upon him). ‘Isa (peace be upon him) had a reddish complexion, curly hair, and a broad chest. Musa (peace be upon him) was tall. The people asked: And Ibrahim (peace be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Look at your companion. By this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant himself.
Hadith 10575
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ((لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي وَصَعَدْتُ قَدَمَيْ (وَفِي نُسْخَةٍ وَضَعْتُ قَدَمَيْ) حَيْثُ تُوضَعُ أَقْدَامُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ عِيسَى بْنُ مَرْيَمَ قَالَ فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ النَّاسِ بِهِ شَبَهًا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ مُوسَى فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ ضَرْبٌ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ قَالَ فَإِذَا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ النَّاسِ شَبَهًا بِصَاحِبِكُمْ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The night I was taken on the Isra, I placed my foot in Bayt al-Maqdis where the prophets had placed their feet. Then ‘Isa (peace be upon him) was presented before me; he resembled ‘Urwah ibn Mas‘ud the most. Then Musa (peace be upon him) was presented before me; he was a man of moderate build and resembled the people of the Shanwah tribe. After that, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was presented before me; among the people, he resembled your own companion (Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) the most.
Hadith 10576
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِي مَرَرْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي فِي قَبْرِهِ عِنْدَ الْكَثِيبِ الْأَحْمَرِ))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The night I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), I passed by Musa (peace be upon him) and I saw him standing and performing prayer in his grave, which was by a red mound.
Hadith 10577
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ((عُرِضَ عَلَيَّ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ فَإِذَا مُوسَى رَجُلٌ ضَرْبٌ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ فَرَأَيْتُ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهًا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَرَأَيْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهًا صَاحِبُكُمْ يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَأَيْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهًا دِحْيَةُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The prophets were presented before me. Musa (peace be upon him) was a man of moderate stature; he looked like the people of the Shanu’ah tribe. I saw ‘Isa (peace be upon him); he resembled ‘Urwah bin Mas‘ud the most. I saw Ibrahim (peace be upon him); he resembled your own companion the most—by this, he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) meant himself. And I saw Jibril (peace be upon him); he resembled Dihyah.
Hadith 10578
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي لَمَّا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَنَظَرْتُ فَوْقَ (قَالَ عُثْمَانُ فَوْقِي) فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَعْدٍ وَبَرْقٍ وَصَوَاعِقَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى قَوْمٍ بُطُونُهُمْ كَالْبُيُوتِ فِيهَا الْحَيَّاتُ تُرَى مِنْ خَارِجِ بُطُونِهِمْ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ أَكَلَةُ الرِّبَا فَلَمَّا نَزَلْتُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا نَظَرْتُ أَسْفَلَ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَهْجٍ وَدُخَانٍ وَأَصْوَاتٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا يَا جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ هَذِهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ يَحُومُونَ عَلَى أَعْيُنِ بَنِي آدَمَ أَنْ لَا يَتَفَكَّرُوا فِي مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَوْ لَا ذَلِكَ لَرَأَوُا الْعَجَائِبَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: On the night of Isra, when we reached the seventh heaven, I looked upwards and saw thunder, lightning, flashes, and thunderous lightning. Then I came to some people whose bellies were as large as houses, and inside them were snakes that could be seen from outside their bellies. I said: O Jibreel! Who are these people? He said: These are the usurers. Then when I descended towards the lowest heaven, I saw that below me there was dust, smoke, and noises. I said: O Jibreel! What is this? He said: These are the devils who hover in front of the eyes of the children of Adam so that they cannot reflect on the kingdoms of the heavens and the earth. If it were not for them, they would see wondrous things.
Hadith 10579
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((مَرَرْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي عَلَى قَوْمٍ تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ قَالُوا خُطَبَاءُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا كَانُوا يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: On the night of Isra, I passed by some people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. I asked: Who are these people? It was said: These are the preachers of the world, who enjoin righteousness upon the people but forget their own selves, while they also recite the Book of Allah. Do they not then understand?
Hadith 10580
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((لَمَّا عَرَجَ بِي رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَرَرْتُ بِقَوْمٍ لَهُمْ أَظْفَارٌ مِنْ نُحَاسٍ يَخْمُشُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَصُدُورَهُمْ فَقُلْتُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ لُحُومَ النَّاسِ وَيَقَعُونَ فِي أَعْرَاضِهِمْ))
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When my Lord took me on the Night Journey (Mi'raj), I passed by some people who had copper nails and were scratching their faces and chests with them. I said: O Jibril! Who are these people? He said: These are the people who used to eat the flesh of others and would attack their honor (i.e., they used to indulge in slander and backbiting).
