Hadith 10514
Narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin ‘Abad Daili (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to the era of ignorance, then he became a Muslim, he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my eyes saw him in the market of Dhu’l-Majaz, he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the streets of this market, while people had crowded around him, I did not see anyone saying anything, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not remaining silent, he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. However, there was a man following behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), he was squint-eyed, had a handsome face, and had two braids, he was saying: This is an irreligious and lying person. I asked: Who is this man? People said: This is Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he is proclaiming prophethood. I asked: Who is the one denying him? They said: This is his uncle Abu Lahab. I asked: So were you young in those days? He said: No, by Allah! Indeed, I was sensible on that day.

(Second chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin ‘Abad Daili (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was a young man and while walking with my father, I was watching the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to the tribes, and behind him was a handsome man with a squint in his eye, whose hair hung down to his shoulders. The Messenger of Allah would stop at each tribe and say: “O Banu so-and-so! I am Allah’s Messenger to you. I command you to worship Allah, not to associate anything with Him, and to affirm me, so that I may convey to you the message with which Allah has sent me.” When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his words, the man behind him would begin to say: “O Banu so-and-so! This man intends that you abandon Lat and ‘Uzza and your allies from Banu Malik bin Uqays, and adopt this innovation and misguidance that he has brought. So do not listen to him and do not follow him.” I asked my father: “Who is this man?” He said: “This is the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Lahab.”

(Third chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), before migrating to Madinah, going to the people at Mina in their dwellings and saying: O people! … … . Then the previous narration was mentioned.

(Fourth Chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw Abu Lahab in ‘Ukaz while he was following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saying: “O people! This man has gone astray himself and wants to lead you astray from the gods of your forefathers.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would run ahead of him, but he would catch up behind him. We boys would also walk along with him. It is as if I am still looking at Abu Lahab—he was squint-eyed, had two braids, was the whitest in complexion among the people, and the most handsome.
