بَابُ ذِكْرِ نَسَبهِ الشَّرِيفِ وَطَيْب أَصْلِهِ الْمُنِيفِ
Chapter: Mention of his noble lineage and the purity of his exalted origin
Hadith 10454
عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ اصْطَفَى مِنْ وَلَدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ بَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ كِنَانَةَ وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ قُرَيْشًا وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَاصْطَفَانِي مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, Allah Almighty selected Isma’il from the children of Ibrahim, from the descendants of Isma’il He selected Kinanah, from the descendants of Kinanah He selected Quraysh, from Quraysh He selected Banu Hashim, and from Banu Hashim He selected me.
Hadith 10455
عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَتَى نَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا لَنَسْمَعُ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ حَتَّى يَقُولَ الْقَائِلُ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّمَا مِثْلُ مُحَمَّدٍ مِثْلُ نَخْلَةٍ نَبَتَتْ فِي كِبَاءٍ قَالَ حُسَيْنٌ الْكِبَاءُ الْكِنَاسَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ أَنَا قَالُوا أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ فَمَا سَمِعْنَاهُ قَطُّ يَنْتَمِي قَبْلَهَا أَلَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ خَلَقَ خَلْقَهُ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ خَلْقِهِ ثُمَّ فَرَّقَهُمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ الْفِرْقَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ جَعَلَهُمْ قَبَائِلَ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِهِمْ قَبِيلَةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَهُمْ بُيُوتًا فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِهِمْ بَيْتًا وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ بَيْتًا وَخَيْرُكُمْ نَفْسًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that some Ansari people came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: We hear things from your people; they even say about you that the example of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is like that of a honeybee, which is produced from the rubbish gathered by a broom. Husain, the narrator, said: “Kibā’” refers to the rubbish gathered by a broom. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Who am I? They said: You are the Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am Muhammad, son of Abdullah, son of Abdul Muttalib. Before this, we had not heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mention his lineage. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beware! Allah Almighty created His creation (jinn and mankind) and made me among the best of creation (i.e., among humans). Then He divided humanity into two parts and placed me in the best part. Then He divided that into tribes and placed me in the best tribe. Then He divided that into households and made me of the best household. Thus, I am the best among you in terms of household and the best in terms of self.
Hadith 10456
عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ هَيْضَمٍ عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَفْدٍ لَا يَرَوْنَ أَنِّي أَفْضَلُهُمْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّنَا نَزْعَمُ أَنَّكُمْ مِنَّا قَالَ نَحْنُ بَنُو النَّضْرِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ لَا نَقْفُو أُمَّنَا وَلَا نَنْتَفِي مِنْ أَبِينَا قَالَ فَكَانَ الْأَشْعَثُ يَقُولُ لَا أُوتَى بِرَجُلٍ نَفَى قُرَيْشًا مِنَ النَّضْرِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ إِلَّا جَلَدْتُهُ الْحَدَّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ash’ath bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a delegation. The people of that delegation did not think that I was superior among them, so I said: O Messenger of Allah! We think that you are from among us? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are Banu Nadr bin Kinana; we neither accuse our mother nor deny our father. Ash’ath used to say: If anyone was brought to me who denied the connection of the Quraysh to Nadr bin Kinana, I would have him flogged as a prescribed punishment.
