Hadith 10387
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The Angel of Death used to come to people and they would see him. In the same way, he came to Musa (peace be upon him), but Musa struck him and gouged out his eye. The angel returned to Allah Almighty and said: O my Lord! Your servant Musa has gouged out my eye (by slapping me). If You had not honored him, I would have dealt harshly with him. Allah Almighty said: Go back to My servant and tell him to place his hand on the back of an ox; for every hair that comes under his hand, he will live for that many years. When Musa (peace be upon him) heard this from the angel, he asked: What will happen after that? The reply was: Then death will come to you. He said: Then let it be now. Then the angel made him smell something, and his soul was taken. Yunus, the narrator, said: Thus Allah Almighty restored the angel’s eye, and after that, the angel began to come to people in a concealed manner.
Hadith 10388
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The Angel of Death was sent to Musa, peace be upon him. When he came to him, Musa struck him and gouged out his eye. So he returned to his Lord and said: You have sent me to a servant who does not want to die. Allah Almighty restored the angel’s eye and said to him: Return to him and say that he should place his hand on the back of an ox; for every hair that comes under his hand, he will be granted a year of life. Musa, peace be upon him, said: O my Lord! Then what will happen? He said: Then death will come. He said: Then let it be now. Then he asked Allah Almighty to bring him close to the holy land at a distance of a stone’s throw. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If I were there, I would show you his grave by the side of the road beneath the red sand hill.
Hadith 10389
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The night I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by Musa (peace be upon him) and I saw him standing and performing prayer in his grave. In one narration, this additional statement is mentioned: This grave was near a red mound.
