بَابُ ذِكْرِ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ يُونُسَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
Chapter: Mention of the Prophet of Allah Yunus, peace be upon him
Hadith 10359
عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ
Abu Alia says: The cousin of your Prophet narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty said: It is not permissible for any servant to say: I am better than Yunus bin Matta. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, attributed him to his father.
Hadith 10360
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى نَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ أَصَابَ ذَنْبًا ثُمَّ اجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not permissible for any man to say: I am better than Yunus bin Matta. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attributed him to his father. He committed a sin, but then Allah Almighty chose him.
Hadith 10361
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((مَا يَنْبَغِي لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى)) قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَحَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ مِثْلَهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not permissible for any prophet to say: I am better than Yunus bin Matta.
Hadith 10362
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ((لِعَبْدٍ)) بَدَلَ ((نَبِيٍّ))
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: … … , in this hadith, instead of the word "prophet," the word "servant" is used.
