بَابُ ذِكْرِ مُهَا جَرَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِابْنِهِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَ أُمِّهِ هَاجَرَ إِلَى جِبَالِ فَارَانَ وَ هِيَ أَرْضُ مَكَّةَ وَ سَبَبُ وجُودِ زَمْزَمَ وَبَنَائِهِ الْبَيْتَ الْعَتِيقِ
Chapter: Mention of the migration of Ibrahim with his son Ismail and his mother Hajar to the mountains of Paran, which is the land of Mecca, the reason for the existence of Zamzam, and his building of the Ancient House
Hadith 10343
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ وَكَثِيرِ بْنِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ يَزِيدُ أَحَدُهُمَا عَلَى الْآخَرِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَوَّلُ مَا اتَّخَذَتِ النِّسَاءُ الْمِنْطَقَ مِنْ قَبْلُ أُمُّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ اتَّخَذَتْ مِنْطَقًا لِتُعْفِيَ أَثَرَهَا عَلَى سَارَةَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ أُمَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ لَوْ تَرَكَتْ زَمْزَمَ أَوْ قَالَ لَوْ لَمْ تَغْرِفْ مِنَ الْمَاءِ لَكَانَتْ زَمْزَمُ عَيْنًا مَعِينًا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَلْفَى ذَلِكَ أُمَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَهِيَ تُحِبُّ الْأُنْسَ فَنَزَلُوا وَأَرْسَلُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيهِمْ فَنَزَلُوا مَعَهُمْ وَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ فَهَبَطَتْ مِنَ الصَّفَا حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْوَادِيَ رَفَعَتْ طَرَفَ دِرْعِهَا ثُمَّ سَعَتْ سَعْيَ الْإِنْسَانِ الْمَجْهُودِ حَتَّى جَاوَزَتِ الْوَادِيَ ثُمَّ أَتَتِ الْمَرْوَةَ فَقَامَتْ عَلَيْهَا وَنَظَرَتْ هَلْ تَرَى أَحَدًا فَلَمْ تَرَ أَحَدًا فَفَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلِذَلِكَ سَعَى النَّاسُ بَيْنَهُمَا
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: The first woman to use a belt around her waist was Umm Isma'il. She arranged the belt to conceal its mark from Sayyida Sarah, may Allah have mercy on her. Then he mentioned the rest of the hadith and said: May Allah have mercy on Umm Isma'il; if she had left Zamzam, in one narration it is: if she had not scooped from Zamzam, it would have been a flowing spring. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: This thing overtook Umm Isma'il that she liked familiarity, so they settled there and she also sent a message to her people, so they too came and settled there... Then Sayyida Hajar, may Allah have mercy on her, descended from Safa until she reached the valley and lifted the edge of her shirt, then ran like a person in distress until she crossed the valley, then she came to Marwah and stood on it and looked to see if she could spot anyone, but she could not see anyone. Thus she did this seven times. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: For this reason, people perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwah.
Hadith 10344
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَاءَ بِإِسْمَاعِيلَ عَلَيْهِمَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ وَهَاجَرَ فَوَضَعَهَا بِمَكَّةَ فِي مَوْضِعِ زَمْزَمَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ثُمَّ جَاءَتْ مِنَ الْمَرْوَةِ إِلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَقَدْ نَبَعَتِ الْعَيْنُ فَجَعَلَتْ تَفْحَصُ الْعَيْنَ بِيَدِهَا هَكَذَا حَتَّى اجْتَمَعَ الْمَاءُ مِنْ شَقَّةٍ ثُمَّ تَأْخُذُ بِقَدَحِهَا فِي سِقَائِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ تَرَكَتْهَا لَكَانَتْ عَيْنًا سَائِحَةً تَجْرِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) brought Ismail (peace be upon him) and Hajar (may Allah have mercy on her) and settled them at the place of Zamzam in Makkah, ... ... , then when Hajar went from Marwah to Ismail, the spring was gushing forth, she began to dig the ground at the place of the spring with her hand in this manner, until water collected in that pit and she began to fill her water-skin with the help of a bowl. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If she had left it, it would have become a spring flowing till the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 10345
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ثَنَا أَيُّوبُ قَالَ أُنْبِئْتُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فَجَاءَ الْمَلَكُ بِهَا حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى مَوْضِعِ زَمْزَمَ فَضَرَبَ بِعَقِبِهِ فَفَارَتْ عَيْنًا فَعَجِلَتِ الْإِنْسَانَةُ فَجَعَلَتْ تَقْدَحُ فِي شَنَّتِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ أُمَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ لَوْ لَا أَنَّهَا عَجِلَتْ لَكَانَتْ زَمْزَمُ عَيْنًا مَعِينًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Then the angel brought Lady Hajarah (may Allah have mercy on her), until when he reached the place of Zamzam, he struck his heel there, and a spring gushed forth from that place. Now the lady began to fill her water-skin with the help of a cup. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah have mercy on the mother of Isma'il; if she had not hurried, Zamzam would have been a flowing stream.
Hadith 10346
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَمْ تَرَيْ إِلَى قَوْمِكِ حِينَ بَنَوُا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَفَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِرَادَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَوْعِبَ النَّاسُ الطَّوَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ كُلِّهِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: Do you not see your people? When they constructed the Kaaba, they reduced it from the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Sayyida said: O Messenger of Allah! So why do you not rebuild it upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If your people had not only recently abandoned disbelief (I would have done so). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: If Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then I think that the reason the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not touch the two corners of the Kaaba on the side of Hatim is because that side of the Kaaba was not upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and his intention was that people should perform the full circumambulation of the House of Allah and circle behind the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Hadith 10347
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ مَسْجِدٍ وُضِعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَوَّلُ قَالَ الْمَسْجِدُ الْحَرَامُ قَالَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيٌّ قَالَ الْمَسْجِدُ الْأَقْصَى قَالَ قُلْتُ كَمْ بَيْنَهُمَا قَالَ أَرْبَعُونَ سَنَةً ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْنَمَا أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّ فَهُوَ مَسْجِدٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which mosque was built first?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-Masjid al-Haram." I asked: "Then which was built after that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-Masjid al-Aqsa." I asked: "What was the time span between the two?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forty years." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wherever the time of prayer finds you, perform the prayer there, for that is a mosque."
Hadith 10348
عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ أُمِّ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَتْ أَخْبَرَتْنِي امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ وَلَدَتْ عَامَّةَ أَهْلِ دَارِنَا أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً يَعْنِي الرَّاوِيَ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ طَلْحَةَ لِمَ دَعَاكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي كُنْتُ رَأَيْتُ قَرْنَيِ الْكَبْشِ حِينَ دَخَلْتُ الْبَيْتَ فَنَسِيتُ أَنْ آمُرَكَ تُخَمِّرُهُمَا فَخَمِّرْهُمَا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي الْبَيْتِ شَيْءٌ يَشْغَلُ الْمُصَلِّي قَالَ سُفْيَانُ لَمْ تَزَلْ قَرْنَا الْكَبْشِ فِي الْبَيْتِ حَتَّى احْتَرَقَ الْبَيْتُ فَاحْتَرَقَا
Umm Mansur says: It is narrated from a woman of Banu Sulaym, from whom most of the children in our house were born, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent a message to Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talha, may Allah be pleased with him. In one narration, it is mentioned: They asked Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talha, may Allah be pleased with him, why the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had called him. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: I saw the horns of a ram inside the House of Allah (Baytullah), and I forgot to instruct you to cover them, so now cover them, because it is not appropriate that there should be anything in the House of Allah that distracts the worshipper. Imam Sufyan said: Those two horns of the ram remained in the House of Allah until the House of Allah caught fire, and then they too were burnt.
