بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي خَلْقِ الْجِنِّ وَأَمُورٍ تَتَعَلَّقُ بِهِمْ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the creation of jinn and matters related to them
Hadith 10272
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُلِقَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ نُورٍ وَخُلِقَتِ الْجَانُّ مِنْ مَارِجٍ مِنْ نَارٍ وَخُلِقَ آدَمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ مِمَّا وُصِفَ لَكُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The angels were created from light, and the jinn were created from a blazing flame of fire, and Adam (peace be upon him) was created from that which has already been made clear to you (i.e., he was created from clay).
Hadith 10273
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ يَضَعُ عَرْشَهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ فِي الْبَحْرِ) ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُ سَرَايَاهُ فَأَدْنَاهُمْ مِنْهُ مَنْزِلَةً أَعْظَمُهُمْ فِتْنَةً يَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ فَيَقُولُ فَعَلْتُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَيَقُولُ مَا صَنَعْتَ شَيْئًا قَالَ وَيَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ فَيَقُولُ مَا تَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى فَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أَهْلِهِ قَالَ فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهُ (أَوْ قَالَ فَيَلْتَزِمُهُ) وَيَقُولُ نِعْمَ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ مَرَّةً فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water or the sea, and then he sends out his armies. The one who is closest to him in rank is the one who causes the greatest tribulation. One comes and says: I did such-and-such an action, but Iblis says: You have done nothing. Another comes and says: I did not leave him until I had caused separation between him and his wife. So Iblis brings him near to himself and embraces him and says: How excellent you are (you have indeed done well).
Hadith 10274
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِابْنِ صَائِدٍ مَا تَرَى قَالَ أَرَى عَرْشًا عَلَى الْبَحْرِ حَوْلَهُ الْحَيَّاتُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرَى عَرْشَ إِبْلِيسَ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ibn Sayyad: "What do you see?" He said: "I see a throne upon the sea, around it are serpents." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is seeing the throne of Iblis."
Hadith 10275
عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي فَاكِهٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَعَدَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ بِأَطْرُقِهِ فَقَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَتُسْلِمُ وَتَذَرُ دِينَكَ وَدِينَ آبَائِكَ وَآبَاءِ أَبِيكَ قَالَ فَعَصَاهُ فَأَسْلَمَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْهِجْرَةِ فَقَالَ أَتُهَاجِرُ وَتَذَرُ أَرْضَكَ وَسَمَاءَكَ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمُهَاجِرِ كَمَثَلِ الْفَرَسِ فِي الطِّوَلِ قَالَ فَعَصَاهُ فَهَاجَرَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْجِهَادِ فَقَالَ لَهُ هُوَ جَهْدُ النَّفْسِ وَالْمَالِ فَتُقَاتِلُ فَتُقْتَلُ فَتُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ وَيُقَسَّمُ الْمَالُ قَالَ فَعَصَاهُ فَجَاهَدَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُمْ فَمَاتَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ قُتِلَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَإِنْ غَرِقَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ وَقَصَتْهُ دَابَّتُهُ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Abi Fakih (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, Satan sits on the paths of the son of Adam. So he sits on the path of Islam and says to him: Will you become a Muslim and leave your own religion and the religion of your forefathers? But he disobeys him and accepts Islam. Then he sits on the path of migration and says to him: Will you migrate and leave your sky and earth, meaning your homeland? And the example of the emigrant is like that of a horse tied with a rope. But he disobeys him and migrates. Then he sits for him on the path of jihad and says to him: In this path, there is hardship for the soul and wealth is spent. Will you now fight? You will be killed, your wife will be married by someone else, and your wealth will be distributed. But he rejects his opinion and performs jihad. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he sets out for this action and then dies, it is a right upon Allah that He will admit him to Paradise. Or if he is martyred, then it is also a right upon Allah that He will admit him to Paradise. Or if he drowns in water, then Allah has the right to admit him to Paradise. Or if an animal breaks his neck, then still it is a right upon Allah that He will admit him to Paradise.
Hadith 10276
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ أَيِسَ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ بِأَرْضِكُمْ هَذِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدْ رَضِيَ مِنْكُمْ بِمَا تَحْقِرُونَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Satan has despaired of being worshipped in your (the land of the Arabian Peninsula), but he will be satisfied with making you commit such (sins) which you consider insignificant.
Hadith 10277
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ أَيِسَ أَنْ يَعْبُدَهُ الْمُصَلُّونَ وَلَكِنْ فِي التَّحْرِيشِ بَيْنَهُمْ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, Satan has despaired of being worshipped by the worshippers (i.e., Muslims) in the Arabian Peninsula, but he will continue to incite them towards discord, quarrels, and fighting.
Hadith 10278
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُرْسِلُوا فَوَاشِيَكُمْ وَصِبْيَانَكُمْ إِذَا غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ فَحْمَةُ الْعِشَاءِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يُبْعَثُ إِذَا غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ فَحْمَةُ الْعِشَاءِ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the sun sets, do not send your livestock and children outside until the initial darkness of the night passes, because after sunset the devils are sent out, until the initial darkness of the night passes.
Hadith 10279
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَتْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِهَا لَيْلًا قَالَتْ فَغِرْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَتْ فَجَاءَ فَرَأَى مَا أَصْنَعُ فَقَالَ مَا لَكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ أَغِرْتِ قَالَتْ وَمَا لِي أَنْ لَا يَغَارَ مِثْلِي عَلَى مِثْلِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفَأَخَذَكِ شَيْطَانُكِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَوَمَعِيَ شَيْطَانٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ وَمَعَ كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ وَمَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنَّ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى أَسْلَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left her place one night. I felt great jealousy (because it was my turn, but you, peace and blessings be upon him, went to one of your wives). Meanwhile, you, peace and blessings be upon him, returned and saw what I had done. You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Aisha! What has happened to you? Have you become jealous?" I said: "Why should a woman like me not be jealous of a personality like you?" You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Has your devil become dominant over you?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is there a devil with me too?" You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes." I said: "Is there a devil with every human being?" You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is there one with you too?" You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes, absolutely, but Allah Almighty has helped me, so much so that he has become obedient."
Hadith 10280
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا وَقَدْ وُكِّلَ بِهِ قَرِينُهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ قَالُوا وَأَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَأَسْلَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: With every one of you, a companion from among the devils has been appointed. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! Is there one with you as well? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, but Allah Almighty has helped me against him and he has become obedient.
Hadith 10281
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ وَفِيهِ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَلَا يَأْمُرُنِي إِلَّا بِحَقٍّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, then a similar narration was mentioned, except that in it is: And but Allah Almighty helped me, so he only commands me with the truth.
Hadith 10282
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَلِجُوا عَلَى الْمُغِيبَاتِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَجْرِي مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ مَجْرَى الدَّمِ قُلْنَا وَمِنْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ وَمِنِّي وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَأَسْلَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not go to those women whose husbands are not present, because Satan circulates among you like blood. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this Satan also with you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He is also with me, but Allah Almighty has helped me against him, so he has become obedient.
Hadith 10283
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ عَلَيَّ الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَخَنَقْتُهُ حَتَّى لَأَجِدُ بَرْدَ لِسَانِهِ فِي يَدَيَّ فَقَالَ أَوْجَعْتَنِي أَوْجَعْتَنِي
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Satan passed by me, I caught him and strangled him, until I felt the coolness of his tongue on my hand. He said to me: "You have caused me pain, you have caused me pain."
Hadith 10284
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي حَدِيثِ الْإِسْرَاءِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا نَزَلْتُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا نَظَرْتُ أَسْفَلَ مِنِّي فَإِذَا بِرَهْجٍ وَدُخَانٍ وَأَصْوَاتٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا يَا جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ هَذِهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ تَحُومُ عَلَى أَعْيُنِ بَنِي آدَمَ أَنْ لَا يَتَفَكَّرُوا فِي مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَوْلَا ذَلِكَ لَرَأَوُا الْعَجَائِبَ
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), while narrating the hadith of Isra, says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When I descended towards the sky of the world, I saw that below me there was dust, smoke, and noises. I said: O Jibreel! What is this? He said: These are devils, who are hovering in front of the eyes of the children of Adam, so that they may not reflect upon the kingdoms of the heavens and the earth. If they were not there, they would see wondrous things.
Hadith 10285
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ عِفْرِيتًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ تَفَلَّتَ عَلَيَّ الْبَارِحَةَ لِيَقْطَعَ عَلَيَّ الصَّلَاةَ فَأَمْكَنَنِيَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ فَدَعَتُّهُ وَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَرْبِطَهُ إِلَى جَنْبِ سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى تُصْبِحُوا فَتَنْظُرُوا إِلَيْهِ كُلُّكُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ دَعْوَةَ أَخِي سُلَيْمَانَ {رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي} [ص: 35] قَالَ فَرَدَّهُ خَاسِئًا
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, a rebellious jinn suddenly appeared before me last night to interrupt my prayer, but Allah Almighty granted me power over him and I pushed him away. I intended to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that in the morning you all could see him, but then I remembered the supplication of my brother Sulaiman (peace be upon him): "O my Lord! Grant me such a kingdom as will not be fitting for anyone after me." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) let him go, in a state that he was unsuccessful.
