بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ وَالْكَوْاكِبِ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the sun, moon, and stars
Hadith 10232
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فِي صِفَةِ صَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ قَالَتْ فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ تَجَلَّتِ الشَّمْسُ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَكَبِّرُوا وَادْعُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَصَلُّوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا الْحَدِيثَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), describing the manner of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings be upon him) eclipse prayer, she says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, the sun had become clear. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon, praised and glorified Allah, and then said: Indeed, the sun and the moon are among the signs of Allah Almighty. They are not eclipsed due to anyone’s death nor due to anyone’s life. So when you see them, glorify Allah Almighty, call upon Allah Almighty, perform prayer, and give charity.
Hadith 10233
عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا بِنَحْوِهِ وَفِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَإِلَى الصَّدَقَةِ وَإِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
A similar hadith is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), except that it states: O people! Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah Almighty; they are not eclipsed due to anyone's death nor due to anyone's life. When you see this, then seek refuge in prayer, charity, and the remembrance of Allah.
Hadith 10234
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الشَّمْسَ حِينَ غَرَبَتْ فَقَالَ فِي نَارِ اللَّهِ الْحَامِيَةِ لَوْلَا مَا يَزَعُهَا مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ لَأَهْلَكَتْ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw the sun setting and said: "It has set in the blazing fire of Allah, and if Allah's command had not restrained it, it would have destroyed all things present on the earth."
Hadith 10235
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ تَغِيبُ الشَّمْسُ تَحْتَ الْعَرْشِ فَيُؤْذَنُ لَهَا فَتَرْجِعُ فَإِذَا كَانَتْ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةُ الَّتِي تَطْلَعُ صَبِيحَتَهَا مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ لَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهَا فَإِذَا أَصْبَحَتْ قِيلَ لَهَا اطْلَعِي مِنْ مَكَانِكِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {هَلْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ رَبُّكَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ} [سورة الأنعام: 158]
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The sun sets beneath the Throne, then it is granted permission, so it returns. When the night comes in which the sun is to rise from the west in the morning, it will not be granted permission. So when it becomes morning, it will be said to it: Rise from the place where you set. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: Are they waiting for anything except that the angels should come to them, or your Lord should come, or some sign of your Lord should come? (Surah Al-An'am: 158)
Hadith 10236
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا طَلَعَ النَّجْمُ صَبَاحًا قَطُّ وَبِقَوْمٍ عَاهَةٌ إِلَّا رُفِعَتْ أَوْ خَفَّتْ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the (Thurayya) star rises in the morning, and whatever disease a people are afflicted with at that time, then that disease either completely disappears or is lessened.
Hadith 10237
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا طَلَعَ النَّجْمُ ذَا صَبَاحٍ رُفِعَتِ الْعَاهَةُ
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the (Thurayya) star rises at dawn, the calamity is removed.
Hadith 10238
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَيْتِنَا فَرَأَى كَوْكَبًا انْقَضَّ فَنَظَرُوا إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِنَّا قَدْ نُهِينَا أَنْ نُتْبِعَهُ أَبْصَارَنَا
Muhammad says: We were with Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) on the roof of our house, he saw a star falling, then people looked towards it, so he said: We have been forbidden from looking at it.
Hadith 10239
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِي فَأَرَانِي الْقَمَرَ حَتَّى طَلَعَ فَقَالَ تَعَوَّذِي بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذَا الْغَاسِقِ إِذَا وَقَبَ
Narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and showed me the moon as it was rising and said: Seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this darkener when its darkness spreads.
Hadith 10240
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَمْ تَرَوْا إِلَى مَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ مَا أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَى عِبَادِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ إِلَّا أَصْبَحَ فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ بِهَا كَافِرِينَ يَقُولُونَ الْكَوْكَبُ وَبِالْكَوْكَبِ
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you not see what your Lord has said? He said: Whenever I bestow a blessing upon My servants, a group among them becomes ungrateful to Me; they say: The rain was sent by the stars, the rain occurred because of the stars.
