بَابُ مَاوَرَدَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَالْأَرْضِينَ السَّبْعِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the creation of the seven heavens and the seven earths and what is between them
Hadith 10215
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ مَرَّتْ سَحَابَةٌ فَقَالَ ((أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَا)) قَالَ قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((الْعَنَانُ وَرَوَايَا الْأَرْضِ يَسُوقُهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى مَنْ لَا يَشْكُرُهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَلَا يَدْعُونَهُ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذِهِ فَوْقَكُمْ)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((الرَّقِيعُ مَوْجٌ مَكْفُوفٌ وَسَقْفٌ مَحْفُوظٌ أَتَدْرُونَ كَمْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهَا)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِ مِائَةِ عَامٍ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الَّتِي فَوْقَهَا)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((سَمَاءٌ أُخْرَى أَتَدْرُونَ كَمْ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهَا)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِ مِائَةِ عَامٍ)) حَتَّى عَدَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ ((أَتَدْرُونَ مَا فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((الْعَرْشُ أَتَدْرُونَ كَمْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِ مِائَةِ عَامٍ)) ثُمَّ قَالَ ((أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَا تَحْتَكُمْ)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((أَرْضٌ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا تَحْتَهَا)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((أَرْضٌ أُخْرَى أَتَدْرُونَ كَمْ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهَا)) قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ((مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِ مِائَةِ عَامٍ)) حَتَّى عَدَّ سَبْعَ أَرَضِينَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ((وَأَيْمُ اللَّهِ لَوْ دَلَّيْتُمْ أَحَدَكُمْ بِحَبْلٍ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ السُّفْلَى السَّابِعَةِ لَهَبَطَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ}))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when a cloud passed by. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you know what this is? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is a cloud, and it gives water to the earth. Allah sends it towards those of His servants who neither thank Him nor call upon Him. Well, do you know what is above it? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The sky, it is a wave that has been stopped and is a protected roof. Do you know how much distance there is between it and you? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A distance of five hundred years. Do you know what is above that? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Another sky. Do you know how much distance there is between this sky and that sky? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A distance of five hundred years. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) counted seven skies. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know what is above the seventh sky? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Throne (‘Arsh). Do you know how much distance there is between the Throne and the seventh sky? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A distance of five hundred years. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Well, do you know what is beneath you? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The earth. Well, do you know what is beneath that? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Another earth. Do you know what is beneath that? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Another earth. Do you know how much distance there is from this earth to that earth? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A distance of five hundred years. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) counted seven earths. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And by Allah, if you were to hang a rope down to the seventh earth, it would reach the seventh earth. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: “He is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden, and He is, of all things, Knowing.” (Surah Al-Hadid: 3)
Hadith 10216
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ ((خَلَقَ اللَّهُ التُّرْبَةَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ وَخَلَقَ الْجِبَالَ فِيهَا يَوْمَ الْأَحَدِ وَخَلَقَ الشَّجَرَ فِيهَا يَوْمَ الْإِثْنَيْنِ وَخَلَقَ الْمَكْرُوهَ يَوْمَ الثُّلَاثَاءِ وَخَلَقَ النُّورَ يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا الدَّوَابَّ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ وَخَلَقَ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ آخِرَ الْخَلْقِ فِي آخِرِ سَاعَةٍ مِنْ سَاعَاتِ الْجُمُعَةِ فِيمَا بَيْنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ))
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and said: Allah Almighty created the earth on Saturday, the mountains on Sunday, the trees on Monday, the disliked things on Tuesday, the light on Wednesday, the cattle on Thursday, and Adam (peace be upon him), who was the last of creation, on Friday after the time of Asr, in the last hour of Friday. This hour is between Asr and the night (sunset).
Hadith 10217
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنَّا قَدْ نُهِينَا أَنْ نَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَكَانَ يُعْجِبُنَا أَنْ يَجِيءَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ الْعَاقِلُ فَيَسْأَلَهُ وَنَحْنُ نَسْمَعُ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَتَانَا رَسُولُكَ فَزَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَرْسَلَكَ قَالَ ((صَدَقَ)) قَالَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاءَ قَالَ ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ قَالَ ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ فَمَنْ نَصَبَ هَذِهِ الْجِبَالَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا مَا جَعَلَ قَالَ ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ فَبِالَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاءَ وَخَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ وَنَصَبَ هَذِهِ الْجِبَالَ آللَّهُ أَرْسَلَكَ قَالَ ((نَعَمْ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were forbidden from asking questions to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so we liked it very much when an intelligent Bedouin would come and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a question and we would listen. So a Bedouin came and said: O Muhammad! Your messenger came to us, he expressed the idea that Allah Almighty has sent you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He spoke the truth. He said: Well, tell me, who created the sky? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah did. He said: Who created the earth? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty did. He said: Who set up these mountains and placed many treasures in them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty did. He said: Then by the One who created the sky, created the earth, and created the mountains, has Allah Almighty sent you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes.
Hadith 10218
عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا وَهُوَ يُخَاصِمُ فِي أَرْضٍ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا أَبَا سَلَمَةَ اجْتَنِبِ الْأَرْضَ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ((مَنْ ظَلَمَ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ طُوِّقَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ سَبْعِ أَرْضِينَ))
It is narrated from Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman that he came to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) while they were disputing over a piece of land. Sayyidah said: O Abu Salamah! Beware of land, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever unjustly seizes even a span of land belonging to someone else, a collar of seven earths will be placed around his neck on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 10219
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ((مَنْ أَخَذَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ طُوِّقَهُ إِلَى السَّابِعَةِ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ دُونَ مَالِهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Saeed bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever seizes a portion of land that does not belong to him, he will be made to wear a collar reaching to the seventh earth on the Day of Resurrection, and whoever is killed while protecting his wealth is a martyr.
Hadith 10220
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الظُّلْمِ أَعْظَمُ قَالَ ((ذِرَاعٌ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ يَنْتَقِصُهُ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ فَلَيْسَتْ حَصَاةٌ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ أَخَذَهَا إِلَّا طُوِّقَهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَى قَعْرِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يَعْلَمُ قَعْرَهَا إِلَّا الَّذِي خَلَقَهَا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Which oppression is the greatest?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A piece of land, which a person seizes from his brother’s right; on the Day of Resurrection, a collar of that portion will be placed on that person down to the depths of the earth, and not even a pebble will be left out, and no one knows the depth of the earth except the One who created it.”
Hadith 10221
عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَأْتِي الشَّيْطَانُ الْإِنْسَانَ فَيَقُولُ مَنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ مَنْ خَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ حَتَّى يَقُولُ مَنْ خَلَقَ اللَّهَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَقُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Satan comes to a person and says: Who created the heavens? He replies: Allah Almighty did. Then he asks: Who created the earth? He replies: Allah Almighty did. (This series of questions continues) until he says: Who created Allah? When anyone feels this, he should say: "Aamantu billahi wa rasoolihi" (I believe in Allah and His Messenger).
Hadith 10222
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى قَالَ لِي إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا يَزَالُونَ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُمْ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا هَذَا اللَّهُ خَلَقَ النَّاسَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللَّهَ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, Allah Almighty has said to me: The people of your Ummah will continue to ask one another questions, until they even say: Allah Almighty created the people, but who created Allah Almighty?
