Book of Repentance
بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي عَدَمِ قُنُوطِ الْمُدْنِبِ مِنَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ لِكَثْرَةِ ذُنُوبِهِ مَا دَامَ مُوَحَدًا
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the sinner not despairing of forgiveness due to the abundance of his sins as long as he is a monotheist

Hadith 10180
عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ قُلْنَا لِجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَكُنْتُمْ تَعُدُّونَ الذُّنُوبَ شِرْكًا قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ
It is narrated from Abu Zubair, he says: We said to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Did you consider sins to be shirk? He said: Allah's refuge.
Hadith 10181
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ أَوْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَخْطَأْتُمْ حَتَّى تَمْلَأَ خَطَايَاكُمْ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ اسْتَغْفَرْتُمُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَغَفَرَ لَكُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ أَوْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ لَمْ تُخْطِئُوا لَجَاءَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِقَوْمٍ يُخْطِئُونَ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ اللَّهَ فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! If you continue to commit sins until the space between the earth and the sky is filled because of your sins, then you seek forgiveness from Allah, He will forgive you. By Him in Whose hand is my life! If you do not commit sins, Allah will create people who will commit sins, then they will seek forgiveness from Allah, and He will forgive them.
Hadith 10182
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْ لَمْ تُذْنِبُوا لَجَاءَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ يُذْنِبُونَ كَيْ يَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you did not commit sins, Allah would bring forth a people who would commit sins, so that He may forgive them.
Hadith 10183
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ قَدْ كُنْتُ كَتَمْتُ عَنْكُمْ شَيْئًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَوْ لَا أَنَّكُمْ تُذْنِبُونَ لَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَوْمًا يُذْنِبُونَ فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the time of his death approached, he said: I used to conceal a hadith from you, which I myself heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you do not commit sins, Allah Almighty will create people who will commit sins, and then Allah Almighty will forgive them.
Hadith 10184
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا أَوْ قَالَ عَمِلْتُ عَمَلًا ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ فَقَالَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَبْدِي عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي ثُمَّ عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ أَوْ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي عَمِلْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ فَقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي ثُمَّ عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ أَوْ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي عَمِلْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ فَقَالَ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي فَلْيَعْمَلْ مَا شَاءَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Indeed, a man committed a sin and said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive me. Allah Almighty said: My servant has committed a sin and he has also realized that he has a Lord who can forgive sins and can also seize because of them. Verily, I have forgiven My servant. Then that servant committed another sin and said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive it. Thereupon Allah Almighty said: My servant has realized that he has a Lord who forgives sins and also seizes because of them. Verily, I have forgiven My servant. Then he committed another sin and said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive me. Allah Almighty said: My servant has realized that he has a Lord who forgives sins and also seizes because of them. Verily, I have forgiven My servant; let him do as he wishes.
Hadith 10185
عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِأَسِيرٍ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا أَتُوبُ إِلَى مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَفَ الْحَقَّ لِأَهْلِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aswad bin Sari’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a prisoner was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The prisoner said: O Allah! I repent to You, I do not repent to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This prisoner has recognized the truth for its rightful owner.
