Hadith 10111
Syedna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! I take a covenant from You, which You will never break. I am only a human being, so if I cause harm to any believer, or abuse him, or flog him, or curse him, then make that thing for him a means of mercy, purity, and nearness, through which You bring him close to Yourself on the Day of Resurrection.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusted a man to Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Keep him safe and guarded. But she was negligent and that man escaped. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, he asked: Hafsa! What happened to that man? She replied: O Messenger of Allah! I was negligent and he escaped. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah cut off your hands. Upon hearing this, the lady raised her hands in such a manner. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered and asked: Hafsa! What has happened to you? She said: O Messenger of Allah! A little while ago you invoked this curse upon me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Straighten your hands, for indeed I have asked Allah that if I ever invoke a curse upon any individual of my Ummah, He may make it a means of forgiveness for him.

Narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) brought a prisoner to me, but I became heedless of him and he escaped. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, he asked: What happened to the prisoner? I said: I became heedless with the other women, so he got away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah cut off your hands or feet. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went outside and announced the escape of the prisoner among the people, so they searched for him and brought him back. Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, I was turning my hands over and over. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What has happened to you, have you gone mad? I said: You invoked a curse upon me, so now I am turning my hands over and over to see which hand will be cut off first. Hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praised and glorified Allah, raised his hands and said: O Allah! Indeed, I am a human being and become angry like a human being, so for any believing man or woman upon whom I invoke a curse, make it a means of purity and purification for them.

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Arab supporters and Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in such great numbers and there was such a crowd that the Muhajirun stood up and began to make room for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood near the threshold of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Then they came so close that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed them his cloak and quickly climbed onto the threshold, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered inside and said: O Allah! Curse them. Sayyida said: The people are destroyed (because you have cursed them). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Never! By Allah, O daughter of Abu Bakr! I have made a condition with my Lord, He will not oppose it. I said to my Lord: I am only a human being and I become constrained like a human being, so if any word comes from me in anger against a believer, make it an expiation for him.

When, on the way, he (peace and blessings be upon him) learned that there was a scarcity of water at the place where he was about to arrive, he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a proclaimer to announce that no one should precede him (peace and blessings be upon him) to the water. Abu Sawar narrates from his maternal uncle, he says: I saw that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went to one side and some people started following him, I also walked with them, people were walking quickly, some individuals were left behind, when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me, he struck me with something, it was a date palm branch, or a stick, or a miswak, or something else. By Allah! It did not hurt me, but I spent that night in contemplation. I said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, must have struck me only because of something Allah had informed him about me. Then I thought that when morning comes, I will go to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. So Gabriel, peace be upon him, descended upon the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this message: Surely, you are a guardian, so do not break the horns of your flock (meaning, be gentle with them). So when we performed the Fajr prayer or in the morning, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Allah! Surely some people followed me, while I did not wish for them to follow me. O Allah! So whoever I struck or spoke harshly to, make that a means of atonement, reward, forgiveness, and mercy for him. Or as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said.
