Narrated from Sayyiduna Nazlah bin Tarif (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: There was a man among us, who was generally called A’shi, his name was Abdullah bin A’war. He had a wife named Mu’azah. He went to Hajar in the month of Rajab to get food for his family. In his absence, his wife rebelled and ran away somewhere, and took refuge with a man named Mutarrif bin Buhsal. He seated her behind his back. When A’shi returned, he did not find his wife at home and was informed that she had rebelled and was under the protection of Mutarrif bin Buhsal. So he went to Mutarrif and said: O cousin! Is my wife Mu’azah with you? If she is, then give her to me. He said: She is not with me, and even if she were, I would not have given her to you. In fact, Mutarrif was more respected and powerful than A’shi. So A’shi set out and reached the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), sought refuge with him, and then recited these verses:
O leader of the people! And the one who has prevailed over the Arabs! I complain to you about a treacherous woman from among the treacherous women.
Like a female wolf with deep blackness, who is in the shadow of a den, I went out in Rajab to seek grain for her.
She opposed my expectation in the form of quarreling and fleeing, she has broken her promise and has closed her tail.
She has thrown me among the thick trees in great quantity, these are the worst conquerors over the one whom they overpower.
Upon hearing this, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These women are the worst conquerors over the one whom they overpower. Then A’shi complained about his wife and this incident, and informed that now she is with a man from our tribe named Mutarrif bin Buhsal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote a letter to Mutarrif: Search for his wife and return her to him. When the letter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached that man and was read to him, he said to that woman: O Mu’azah! A letter from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has been received about you, because of which I am going to hand you over to him. The woman said: Then take a firm promise and the protection of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for me, so that he does not punish me for what I have done. So Mutarrif took this promise and covenant from A’shi, and then handed his wife over to him. A’shi received his wife and began to recite these verses:
By your life! My love for Mu’azah is not such that slanderers and the passage of time can diminish it.
Nor will the evil that Mu’azah has done diminish it, because misguided people had enticed her, when they whispered to her after I had left.
Hadith 10050
(Second chain) A’sha says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and recited these verses:
O Master of the people and the one who has prevailed over the Arabs! I have encountered a treacherous woman from among the treacherous women.
I set out in Rajab to bring her grain, but in the case of dispute and escape, she became my deputy.
She broke her promise and tucked in her tail; she is the worst in overpowering the one whom she overpowers.
