Hadith 9936
عَنْ سَعْدٍ يَعْنِي بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a person's stomach is filled with pus to the extent that it becomes visible, this is better for him than being filled with poetry.
Hadith 9937
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated a similar hadith of the Prophet.
Hadith 9938
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a person's stomach is filled with pus, it is better for him than to fill it with poetry.
Hadith 9939
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْعَرْجِ إِذْ عَرَضَ شَاعِرٌ يُنْشِدُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُذُوا الشَّيْطَانَ أَوْ أَمْسِكُوا الشَّيْطَانَ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُلٍ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of 'Arj when suddenly a poet appeared before us, reciting poetry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seize this devil, or he said: Stop this devil. If a person's stomach is filled with pus, it is better for him than to have his stomach filled with poetry.
Hadith 9940
عَنْ أَبِي نَوْفَلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَقْرَبَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُتَسَامَعُ عِنْدَهُ الشِّعْرُ فَقَالَتْ قَدْ كَانَ أَبْغَضَ الْحَدِيثِ إِلَيْهِ
It is narrated from Abu Nofal that he asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) whether poetry was heard in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyida said: The most disliked speech to him (peace and blessings be upon him) was poetry.
Hadith 9941
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنَا قَزَعَةُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ مَخْلَدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ قَالَ أَبِي ثَنَا الْأَشْيَبُ فَقَالَ عَنْ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قَرَضَ بَيْتَ شِعْرٍ بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلَاةُ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever composes two lines of poetry after the ‘Isha prayer, his prayer of that night will not be accepted.
