Hadith 9741
Muhammad bin Abdullah narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) met some people who were coming out after meeting Marwan. He asked: Where have these people come from? They said: We have come from the governor Marwan. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to them: And did you speak about the truth you saw there, and help Marwan in it, and did you reject the evil you saw there and refute Marwan for it? They said: No, by Allah! Rather, even regarding the things of Marwan that were worthy of rejection, we said: You have done right, may Allah set you right. Then when we left him, we said among ourselves: May Allah destroy this Marwan, how oppressive and evil a man he is. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to consider such behavior as hypocrisy.
Hadith 9742
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The example of a helpless hypocrite is like that of a goat which is hesitant between two herds, uncertain about joining either one; sometimes it goes towards this herd and sometimes with that herd, not knowing whether to follow this one or that one.
Hadith 9743
Ubaid says: One day I was sitting in Makkah Mukarramah, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was also with them. My father said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, the example of a hypocrite will be like that of a goat which is between two enclosures of goats; if it goes into this enclosure, those goats beat it, and if it goes into the other, those beat it. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: You are saying it incorrectly, but people praised my father. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I also consider your companion to be good, as you do, but I was present with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he narrated this hadith; he (peace and blessings be upon him) used the words: "like a goat between two flocks of goats (kal-shaati bayn al-ghanamayni)." They said: The meaning is the same, but Sayyiduna Ibn Umar said: I heard only these words.
Hadith 9744
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: In the time of the Prophet, if a person spoke in this manner, he would become a hypocrite because of it, and now I hear such things from you ten times in a single gathering.
Hadith 9745
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us, he (peace and blessings be upon him) praised and glorified Allah and said: Surely there are hypocrites among you. As I mention each one by name, he should stand up. O so-and-so! You stand up. O so-and-so! You also stand up. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the names of thirty-six men, and then said: There are hypocrites among you, so fear Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Umar passed by a man whose name had been mentioned; he had covered himself with a cloth. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) recognized him, and asked him: What has happened to you? He narrated to him the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (Umar) said: May distance be for you for the rest of the days.
Hadith 9746
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not call a hypocrite your leader, because if he becomes your leader, you will anger your Lord.
Hadith 9747
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: Surely, there are some signs of the hypocrites, by which they are recognized: their greeting is a curse, their food is usurped, their spoils are stolen, they do not come near the mosques except to abandon them, they come for prayer after its time has passed, they are arrogant, they do not show affection nor is affection shown to them, at night they lie like pieces of wood, and during the day they are noisy and quarrelsome.
Hadith 9748
Syedna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The signs of a hypocrite are three: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted, he betrays the trust.
Hadith 9749
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You will find the worst of people to be the two-faced person, who comes to these people with one face and goes to those people with another face.
Hadith 9750
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: On the Day of Resurrection, you will find the worst of people to be the two-faced person. Ibn Numayr said: This refers to the man who speaks to these people with the words of those, and to those people with the words of these.
Hadith 9751
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It does not befit a two-faced person to be trustworthy.
Hadith 9752
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, “O Messenger of Allah! People even think that there is no reward for us in Mecca?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Your reward will surely, surely reach you, even if you are in a fox’s den.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lowered his blessed head towards me and said: “Among my companions, there are also hypocrites.”
Hadith 9753
Abu Uthman Nahdi says: I was near the pulpit of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he was addressing the people. In his address, he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I fear most for my Ummah from that hypocrite who is eloquent of tongue.
