Hadith 9729
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Do not take pride in your forefathers who died in the age of ignorance. By the One in Whose hand is my soul! The dung beetle (black insect) that rolls things with its nose is better than those ancestors of yours who died in the age of ignorance.
Hadith 9730
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, surely, people must abandon boasting about their ancestors, for these ancestors were merely fuel for Hell, or else they will become more insignificant to Allah than a dung beetle that pushes filth with its nose. Remember, Allah Almighty has ended the pride and arrogance of the Age of Ignorance and boasting about forefathers from among you. Now there are only two types: a pious, faithful person and a wicked, miserable one. All people are the children of Adam (peace be upon him), and Adam (peace be upon him) was created from dust.
Hadith 9731
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: People will have to abandon the pride of ignorance, or else they will become more contemptible in the sight of Allah than a dung beetle.
Hadith 9732
It is narrated from Abu Nadrah that a companion who heard the sermon of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the middle of the days of Tashreeq reported that the Noble Prophet said: O people! Beware! Indeed, your Lord is One and your father is one. No Arab has superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have superiority over an Arab, nor does a red-skinned person have superiority over a black-skinned person, nor does a black-skinned person have superiority over a red-skinned person, except on the basis of piety. Have I conveyed the message? The companions said: The Messenger of Allah has conveyed the message.
Hadith 9733
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the time of Musa (peace be upon him), two men stated their lineage, one of them was a Muslim and the other a polytheist. While stating his lineage, the polytheist said: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so," (he mentioned nine generations), then he said to his counterpart: "May your mother not remain, state your lineage?" He replied: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and I disassociate from the ancestors after him." Thereupon, Musa (peace be upon him) gathered the people and said: "Judgment has been made between you two. The one who mentioned his lineage up to nine ancestors, he is the tenth of them, and all of you are in the Fire. And the man who mentioned his lineage up to his parents, he is among the people of Islam."
Hadith 9734
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men stated their lineage; one said: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, so who are you? May your mother not remain!" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the time of Musa (peace be upon him), two men stated their lineage in the same way." Then he mentioned it similar to the hadith of Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 9735
Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The owners of camels and goats began to boast to one another in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the owners of camels there is pride and arrogance, and among the owners of goats there is tranquility and dignity. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Musa (peace be upon him) was sent as a prophet while he was a shepherd of goats, and when I was granted prophethood, I too was a shepherd of goats at the place of Ji’ad.
Hadith 9736
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Reflect, you are not better than any red or black person, except that you surpass him in piety.
Hadith 9737
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was attributed with an association from the time of ignorance (Jahiliyyah). Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) told him to bite his father's private part, and he did not speak figuratively. The people looked at him with astonishment because of this insult, but he said: I know what you are feeling within yourselves, while I only have the ability to say this much, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us, saying: When you see someone being attributed to the associations of Jahiliyyah, then say to him without any hint or innuendo: Bite your father's private part.
Hadith 9738
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was attributed (with a relation of ignorance), so he interrupted his speech by cursing the man's father's private parts. The people said: O Ubayy! You were not one to speak badly? He said: Indeed, we have been commanded to do this.
Hadith 9739
Narrated by Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely your lineage is not a cause of disgrace or shame for anyone, because you are all the children of Adam, and you are less than a full measure (that is, none of you is complete and perfect, each one has some deficiency). And no one has any superiority or excellence over another except on the basis of religion and righteous deeds. It is sufficient for a man to be considered bad if he is foul-mouthed, ill-spoken, ill-mannered, miserly, and cowardly.
Hadith 9740
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that ‘Uyainah bin Badr, Aqra‘ bin Habis, and ‘Alqamah bin ‘Alathah gathered in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began discussing their ancestors (saying that so-and-so’s grandfather was strong). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you wish, I can tell you. The ancestor of Banu ‘Amir was a red or wheat-colored camel that used to eat leaves from trees in a small garden. The ancestor of Ghatafan was a fearsome hill that used to drive people away from there. Aqra‘ bin Habis said: And the ancestor of Banu Tamim? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he had remained silent, it would have been better.
