Hadith 9717
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The person who has faith equal to a grain in his heart will not enter the Fire, and the person who has arrogance equal to a grain in his heart will not enter Paradise. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I like that my clothes are clean, oil is applied to my hair, the strap of my shoe is new, and then he mentioned some more things, even to the extent of mentioning the ring for hanging a whip. Are these things from arrogance, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, this is beauty. Indeed, Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is to reject the truth and to look down upon people.
Hadith 9718
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever dies while there is even a mustard seed's weight of arrogance in his heart, Paradise will not be permissible for him to the extent that he can smell its fragrance or see it. A man from the Quraysh named Abu Rayhanah said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I like beauty and elegance, ... . Then he narrated a report similar to the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 9719
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Raihanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Nothing of arrogance will enter Paradise. Someone said: O Messenger of Allah! I like to have beauty with the thread or leather of my whip and the strap of my shoe. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is not arrogance. Indeed, Allah Almighty is Beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is to reject the truth and to look down upon people. By "hablan" is meant the leather or thread of the whip and the strap of the shoe.
Hadith 9720
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the time of death of Allah’s Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) approached, he said to his son: Indeed, I am about to give you a will. I command you regarding two things and forbid you from two things. I command you to say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, then he described the virtue of this phrase, and I advise you to say SUBHANALLAHI WABIHAMDIHI, then he mentioned its virtue, and I forbid you from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and arrogance.
Someone said: O Messenger of Allah! We recognize shirk, but what is arrogance? Is it that a servant has good shoes and good laces for them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. He said: Is it that a servant has a garment which he wears? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. He said: Then is arrogance that a servant has a riding animal upon which he rides? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. He said: Is it then that a servant has companions who sit with him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Then what is arrogance? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To reject the truth and to look down upon people.

Abu Hayyan’s father, Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman, says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) met each other, then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) turned away and began to weep. The people asked: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Why are you weeping? He said: Because of what he has related to me. He says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That person will not enter Paradise in whose heart there is even a mustard seed’s weight of arrogance.
Hadith 9722
Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman says: On Marwah, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with them) met each other, they talked, then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) left, and behind him Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) began to weep. A man said to him: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Why are you weeping? He said: This Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) has said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has arrogance equal to a mustard seed in his heart, Allah Almighty will throw him on his face into Hell.
Hadith 9723
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was neither forbidden from whispering nor from such-and-such things. Ibn ‘Aun says: He forgot one thing and I did not remember the other. Then I came to him while Malik bin Mararah Rahawi was sitting with him and he was narrating a hadith. The last part of that hadith, which I heard, was this: He said: O Messenger of Allah! I have been given a considerable share of beauty and elegance, as you know. Now I wish that no man should surpass me even in the matter of two straps (i.e., shoes). Is this arrogance? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, this is not arrogance. Arrogance is to reject the truth and to look down upon people.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The arrogant will be gathered on the Day of Judgment in the form of small ants in the shape of men, humiliation and disgrace will cover them from all sides, until they are taken into a prison in Hell called "Bulus." There, the fire of fires will engulf them, and they will be given to drink from "Teenat al-Khabal," which is the pus of the people of Hell.
