بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي التَّرْهِيبِ مِنْ قَطْعِ صِلَةِ الرَّحِيمِ
Chapter on what has been narrated regarding warning against severing family ties
Hadith 9689
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مِنْ أَرْبَى الرِّبَا الْإِسْتَطَالَةُ فِي عِرْضِ مُسْلِمٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّ هَذِهِ الرَّحِمَ شِجْنَةٌ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ فَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Saeed bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The greatest injustice is that a person violates his brother’s honor without any right, and indeed, maintaining ties of kinship is a branch of the Most Merciful; whoever severs it, Allah Almighty will make Paradise forbidden for him.
Hadith 9690
عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ مَرِيضٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَصَلَتْكَ رَحِمٌ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ خَلَقْتُ الرَّحِمَ وَشَقَقْتُ لَهَا مِنْ اسْمِي فَمَنْ يَصِلْهَا أَصِلْهُ وَمَنْ يَقْطَعْهَا أَقْطَعْهُ فَأَبُتَّهُ أَوْ قَالَ مَنْ يَبُتَّهَا أَبُتَّهُ
Abdullah bin Qariz went to Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was ill. He said to him: The bond of kinship has reached you. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says: I am the Most Merciful (Rahman). I created the womb (i.e., kinship) and derived its name from My own name. Whoever joins it, I will join him, and whoever severs it, I will sever him.
Hadith 9691
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُوضَعُ الرَّحِمُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَهَا حُجْنَةٌ كَحُجْنَةِ الْمِعْزَلِ تَتَكَلَّمُ بِلِسَانٍ طَلْقٍ ذَلْقٍ فَتَصِلُ مَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَتَقْطَعُ مَنْ قَطَعَهَا وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ الْمِعْزَلُ وَقَالَ بِأَلْسِنَةٍ لَهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: On the Day of Resurrection, the bond of kinship will be placed in such a way that it will be like a crooked thing attached to the head of a spinning machine’s spindle. It will speak quickly and eloquently, and with that thing, it will join the one who maintained the ties of kinship and cut off the one who did not maintain them.
Hadith 9692
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا مِنْ ذَنْبٍ أَحْرَى أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ اللَّهُ بِصَاحِبِهِ الْعُقُوبَةَ مَعَ مَا يُؤَخِّرُ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ مَعَ مَا يُدَّخَرُ) لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ بَغْيٍ أَوْ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍ
Narrated by Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: There is no sin more deserving that Allah should hasten the punishment for its perpetrator in this world, along with what He stores for him in the Hereafter (of punishment), than rebellion (oppression) and severing of family ties.
Hadith 9693
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَنْبَانِ مُعَجَّلَانِ لَا يُؤَخَّرَانِ الْبَغْيُ وَقَطِيعَةُ الرَّحِمِ
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The punishment for two sins is hastened, and there is no delay in them: rebellion (oppression) and severing of family ties.
Hadith 9694
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمَّا خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ قَامَتِ الرَّحِمُ فَأَخَذَتْ بِحَقْوِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَتْ هَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ مِنَ الْقَطِيعَةِ قَالَ أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ أَصِلَ مَنْ وَصَلَكِ وَأَقْطَعَ مَنْ قَطَعَكِ اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ {فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَنْ تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتَقْطَعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَى أَبْصَارَهُمْ أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا} {محمد: 22-24}
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah Almighty created the creation, the bond of kinship stood holding onto Allah’s waist and said: This is the place of one who seeks refuge from severing ties of kinship. Allah said: Yes. Are you not pleased that I will join the one who joins you, and I will cut off the one who cuts you off? If you wish, recite this verse of the Qur’an: “And it is not beyond you that if you are given authority, you will cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship. They are those upon whom is the curse of Allah, and He has made them deaf and blinded their sight. Do they not then reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon their hearts?”
Hadith 9695
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ أَعْمَالَ بَنِي آدَمَ تُعْرَضُ كُلَّ خَمِيسٍ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَلَا يُقْبَلُ عَمَلُ قَاطِعِ رَحِمٍ
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On every Thursday night, that is, the night of Friday, the deeds of the children of Adam are presented, and the deeds of the one who severs ties of kinship are not accepted.
Hadith 9696
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الرَّحِمُ شُجْنَةٌ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ تَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ قُطِعْتُ يَا رَبِّ ظُلِمْتُ يَا رَبِّ أُسِيءَ إِلَيَّ (زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ قَالَ) فَيُجِيبُهَا الرَّبُّ أَمَا تَرْضَيْنَ أَنْ أَصِلَ مَنْ وَصَلَكَ وَأَقْطَعَ مَنْ قَطَعَكِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kinship is a branch of the Most Merciful. On the Day of Resurrection, it will come and say: O my Lord! I was cut off, O my Lord! I was wronged, O my Lord! I was treated badly. Then Allah Almighty will reply to it: Will you not be pleased if I join with the one who joined you, and I cut off the one who cut you off?
Hadith 9697
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرَّحِمُ مَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَصَلَهُ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا قَطَعَهُ اللَّهُ
Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever maintains the ties of kinship, Allah will maintain his connection, and whoever severs the ties of kinship, Allah will sever his connection.
Hadith 9698
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلَا يُؤْذِيَنَّ جَارَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَسْكُتْ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ)
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should never harm his neighbor; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.
