Chapter on what has been narrated regarding pairs
Hadith 9556
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا شَكَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَسْوَةَ قَلْبِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ((إِنْ أَرَدْتَ تَلْيِينَ قَلْبِكَ فَأَطْعِمِ الْمِسْكِينَ وَامْسَحْ رَأْسَ الْيَتِيمِ))
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the hardness of his heart. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: If you want to soften your heart, then feed the poor and stroke the head of the orphan.
Hadith 9557
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ((إِنَّ أَكْثَرَ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ النَّارَ الْأَجْوَفَانِ)) قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا الْأَجْوَفَانِ قَالَ ((الْفَرْجُ وَالْفَمُ)) قَالَ ((أَتَدْرُونَ أَكْثَرَ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ الْجَنَّةَ تَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Indeed, the thing that causes most people to enter Hell is al-ajwafān. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by al-ajwafān? He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The private parts and the mouth. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Do you know what thing will cause most people to enter Paradise? The fear of Allah and good character.
Hadith 9558
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسُئِلَ أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ فَقَالَ ((مُؤْمِنٌ مُجَاهِدٌ بِمَالِهِ وَنَفْسِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ)) قَالَ ثُمَّ مَنْ قَالَ ((مُؤْمِنٌ فِي شِعْبٍ مِنَ الشِّعَابِ يَتَّقِي اللَّهَ وَيَدَعُ النَّاسَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ))
Syedna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked which people are the best, he (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: The believer who strives in the way of Allah with his self and his wealth. He said: Then which person is superior? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Then that person who worships his Lord in seclusion in a mountain pass and keeps people safe from his evil.
Hadith 9559
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((إِنَّ الصِّحَّةَ وَالْفَرَاغَ نِعْمَتَانِ مِنْ نِعَمِ اللَّهِ مَغْبُونٌ فِيهِمَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, there are two blessings of Allah Almighty regarding which many people incur loss: health and free time.
Hadith 9560
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِبَعْضِ جَسَدِي فَقَالَ ((اعْبُدِ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ وَكُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ))
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) took hold of a part of my body and said: Worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, and be in this world as if you are a stranger or a traveler.
Hadith 9561
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَفَ عَلَى نَاسٍ جُلُوسٍ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِكُمْ مِنْ شَرِّكُمْ فَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ فَأَعَادَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ وَشَرُّكُمْ مَنْ لَا يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ وَلَا يُؤْمَنُ شَرُّهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came and stood by some people who were sitting, and said: "Shall I not tell you who among your worst people are the best?" The people remained silent. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, repeated this sentence three times. Finally, one person said: "Why not, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best among you is the one from whom good is expected, and the worst among you is the one from whom good is not expected and from whose evil there is no safety."
Hadith 9562
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا حَلِيمَ إِلَّا ذُو عَثْرَةٍ وَلَا حَكِيمَ إِلَّا ذُو تَجْرِبَةٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No one is forbearing except one who has made mistakes, and no one is wise except one who has experience.
Hadith 9563
عَنْ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wealth is (the basis of) lineage, and nobility is piety.
Hadith 9564
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْلَا بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لَمْ يُخْنَزِ اللَّحْمُ وَلَوْلَا حَوَّاءُ لَمْ تَخُنْ أُنْثَى زَوْجَهَا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If it were not for the Children of Israel, meat would not have decayed, and if it were not for Lady Hawwa (peace be upon her), no wife would betray her husband.
