Syedna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty says: When I take away something beloved from My servant and he remains patient, seeking reward, then I have nothing to give him as compensation except Paradise.

So, according to the promise, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to that house, and among the things he instructed the women was this: Any woman who sends ahead three children and then patiently endures it seeking reward, she will enter Paradise. A woman asked: And if there are two children? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Even if there are two.

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have only sent two? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if there are two. The leader of the reciters, Abu al-Mundhir, Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Only one of my children has passed away? He was replied: Even if it is one child. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This reward is given only when patience is observed at the onset of the calamity.

Hafs, the narrator, says: It has been sixty years since I heard this blessed hadith, and at that time I was not even ten years old. Ali bin Abdullah, the narrator, says: I heard Hafs saying this in the year 287 AH.

Muhammad bin Sirin says: A woman named Mawiyaa used to come to us; her children would pass away. She went to Ubaidullah bin Mu’ammar Quraishi, while a companion of the Messenger of Allah was also sitting with him. That companion narrated that a woman brought her son to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He keeps him alive and safe; before this, three of my children have passed away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Since you accepted Islam, have three children of yours died?” She replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is a very strong means of protection (from the Fire).” Mawiyaa says: Ubaidullah bin Mu’ammar said to me: O Mawiyaa, listen carefully (and act with patience and fear Allah). Muhammad bin Sirin says: This woman (Mawiyaa) left Ibn Mu’ammar and came to us and narrated this hadith to us.

He ﷺ said: "This is a very strong shield (for protection from Hell)." Then a man said to me: O Raja, listen to what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is saying.

He said: Dahhak bin Abdur Rahman narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty said: O Angel of Death! Have you taken the soul of My servant’s child? Have you taken the coolness of his eyes and the love of his heart? He says: Yes. Allah Almighty says: Then what did My servant say? He said: He praised You and recited “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.” Allah Almighty said: Then build for him a house in Paradise and name it Bayt al-Hamd (the House of Praise).

Ibn Hisbah or Abu Hisbah narrates from a companion who was present at the time of the address of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do you know who is Raqoob (childless)? The people said: The one who has no children. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is completely Raqoob, he is entirely Raqoob, but the real Raqoob is the one who dies in such a state that he does have children, but he has not sent any child ahead (i.e., has not done any good deeds that benefit him after death). Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do you know who is Sa’look (poor and destitute)? The people said: The one who has no wealth. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is completely Sa’look, he is entirely Sa’look, but the real Sa’look is the one who, despite being wealthy, dies in such a state that he has not sent any wealth ahead (i.e., has not spent in the way of Allah). Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do you know who is the great wrestler? They said: The one who throws others down. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The real wrestler, the greatest wrestler, is the person who, when he gets angry, his anger becomes intense, his face turns red, and his hair stands on end, but he controls his anger.

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even the one who has only one forerunner, O woman granted success! Then Sayyidah said: What about the one from your Ummah who has no forerunner? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I will be the forerunner for my Ummah; my Ummah has not suffered a hardship like mine.

The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What if there are two children? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if there are two. The people again asked: What if there is one? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if there is one. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By the One in Whose hand is my soul! Indeed, the incomplete child will pull his mother towards Paradise by the cut part of the umbilical cord, provided she remains patient seeking reward for it.

The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What if there are three? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if there are three. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What if there are two? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if there are two. And indeed, there will be individuals in my Ummah for whom the Fire will be made so vast that they will become a corner of it, and there will be individuals in my Ummah by whose intercession more people will enter Paradise than the number of people in the tribe of Mudar.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever’s two children die in Islam, Allah Almighty, out of mercy for those children, will also admit that person into Paradise. Later, when Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) met me, he said to me: Are you the man to whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave glad tidings regarding the parents? I said: Yes. He said: If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said this for me, it would have been dearer to me than those things for which Homs and Palestine were closed.

He said: Yes, indeed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If three minor children of a Muslim husband and wife die, Allah Almighty will forgive them.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has sent three children ahead (i.e., who have died), they will become a barrier for him from Hell.

When it will be said to those children, "Enter Paradise," they will say, "Let our parents come (and then we will enter)." This will be said to them three times, and each time they will give the same reply. Finally, it will be said to them, "You and your parents, all of you, enter Paradise."

He said: Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The young children (of the believers) will be the little birds of Paradise (meaning, they will come and go in Paradise without restriction). Such a child will meet his father or his parents, will take hold of his hand, just as I have taken hold of the edge of your garment, and will not let go, until Allah, the Exalted, admits him and his father both into Paradise.

Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missed him and asked: "What happened to the son of so-and-so?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! He has passed away." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his father: "Do you not like that whenever you come to any door of Paradise, you find your child waiting for you there?" A man asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Is this only for him or for all of us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Why not, it is for all of you."

Hassan bin Kareeb says: A child among us passed away, and his parents were deeply grieved. The Companion of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyiduna Hoshab (may Allah be pleased with him), said: Shall I tell you what I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say regarding a son like your son? The details are as follows: There was a Companion who had a son; he had taught him manners, or the child was still crawling on the ground, dragging his hands and feet. That child used to come with his father to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then it happened that the child passed away, and his father felt so much grief that he did not come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for six days. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the reason that so-and-so is not seen? The people said: O Messenger of Allah! His child has passed away, and he is distressed because of it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O so-and-so! Tell me, do you wish that your child was with you now and was the most active among the children? Or do you wish that your child was the most courageous among the children? Or do you prefer that your child was a strong youth of thirty to fifty years? Or do you wish that on the Day of Resurrection it will be said to you: Enter Paradise as a reward for the child who was taken from you?

Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: My maternal aunt’s son, Sayyiduna Haritha (may Allah be pleased with him), went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Badr. This boy had gone to watch the battle, not to fight, but suddenly an arrow struck him and he was killed. So my aunt came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My son Haritha (may Allah be pleased with him), if he is in Paradise, then I will be patient seeking reward, otherwise Allah will see what I do. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umm Haritha! There are many gardens in Paradise, and indeed Haritha is in the highest Firdaus.
