Hadith 9278
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Indeed, he has succeeded who accepted Islam, and then was provided sustenance according to his need, and Allah Almighty made him content with whatever He gave him.
Hadith 9279

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: A house, coarse and dry bread, and a garment that covers the private parts—whatever is beyond these is surplus, and the son of Adam has no right in it.
Hadith 9281
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd Salma (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I requested clothing from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) made me wear two coarse garments. But when I adorned myself with them, I saw that among my companions, I was the one with the most clothing.
Hadith 9282
Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Badri companion, narrates: He says, “O my beloved son Abdullah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to send us in the army, and our provisions were only in leather bags. It was distributed in such a way that each one would get a handful, and then it came to the point where each would get only one date.” The son said, “O my father! How could one date suffice you?” He said, “My child! Do not say such a thing. When even that was not available, we would feel the need for even that.”
Hadith 9283
Abdullah bin Shaqiq says: I resided with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Madinah Munawwarah for a year. One day he said to me, while we were near the chamber of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): I saw that we had torn, old sheets, and there were days when we could not find anything to eat by which we could straighten our backs. It would reach the point that people would pick up stones and tie them to their hungry stomachs with cloth in order to keep their backs straight. One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed dates among us; each person received seven dates, among which were dry and inferior dates. And I did not like the idea that I would get a good date instead of that inferior date. I asked: Why is that? He said: Because it had to be chewed with difficulty.
Hadith 9284
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw myself with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in such a state that, due to hunger, I would tie stones to my stomach, but today the amount of my wealth's zakat is forty thousand.
Hadith 9285
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Our food with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be two black things—dates and water. By Allah! We had neither seen your wheat nor did we know what it was, and our clothing with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be small sheets like those of the Bedouins.
Hadith 9286
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), a man went to him and found him weeping. He said: O Abu Ubaidah! Why are you weeping? He replied: The reason for my weeping is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once mentioned those things which Allah Almighty would grant to the Muslims in the form of victories and spoils, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) also mentioned Syria, and further said: O Abu Ubaidah! If your life is prolonged, then three servants should suffice you: one servant for your service, one to accompany you on journeys, and one servant to serve your family, who comes and goes to them. And three mounts should suffice you: one for your riding, one for your luggage, and one mount for your servant. Now pay attention, I look at my house, it is filled with servants, and the stable is filled with animals and horses. With these things, how will I face the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he (peace and blessings be upon him) advised us, saying: The most beloved to me among you and the closest to me is the one who meets me in the same state in which I left him.
Hadith 9287
Shaqiq narrates: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to visit his maternal uncle, Sayyiduna Abu Hashim bin Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him), to look after him. He began to weep. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Uncle! Why are you crying? Is some pain troubling you or is worldly greed the reason for your weeping? He replied: None of these is the reason. The matter is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advised us, saying: O Abu Hashim! It is possible that you may acquire such wealth that will have to be distributed among people. So, for you, only a servant from the wealth and a mount for the path of Allah will suffice. But now I see myself that I have accumulated wealth.
Hadith 9288
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Abu Hashim bin Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him), while he was ill and weeping.
Hadith 9289
Haritha bin Mudarrib says: I went to Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), while he had been cauterized at seven places on his body. He said: To my knowledge, no one else has suffered the pain that I have. If I had not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that no man should wish for death, I would have wished for death. When I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I did not have even a single dirham, and now there are forty thousand dirhams lying in one corner of my house. Then his shroud was brought, and when he saw it, he began to weep and said: But for Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him), there was no shroud except for a sheet of white and black color. When it was placed over his head, it would not cover his feet, and when it was placed over his feet, it would not cover his head. So it was placed over his head, and idhkhir grass was placed over his feet.
Hadith 9290
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We migrated with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and among us were some individuals who passed away without receiving anything of their reward in this world. Among them was Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him), who left behind nothing in his inheritance except a striped sheet. When people covered his head with it, his legs would be exposed, and when they covered his legs, his head would be exposed. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: Cover his head. And we placed izkhir grass on his feet. But there were also some people whose fruit ripened and they are picking it.

Khalid bin Umair says: Sayyiduna Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon, praised and glorified Allah Almighty, and then said: "Amma ba'd! Indeed, the world has announced its end and it is quickly turning away; now only as much of it remains as a little water left in a vessel, which its owner drinks up. And you people are moving towards a home that will never end, so move on with whatever good you have with you. We have been told that a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell and it keeps falling for seventy years but still does not reach its bottom. By Allah! Such a vast Hell will be filled. Are you people amazed? By Allah! We have been told that the distance between the two panels of a gate of Paradise is a journey of forty years, but even then a day will come when it will be crowded with throngs. I myself saw that we were seven people with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and our food was only the leaves of trees, because of which sores would appear at the corners of our mouths, and I picked up a sheet and divided it into two pieces between myself and Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him); he tied half of it as a lower garment, but now each one of us has become the governor of a city. I seek refuge from being great in my own eyes but low in the sight of Allah Almighty. Whenever Prophethood ended, its outcome would be in the form of kingship, and after us, soon you too will experience kings."
Hadith 9292
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him) ascended the pulpit and delivered a sermon to us, and said: I remember myself that we were seven individuals with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and our food was nothing except the leaves of a plant like the hyacinth bean, due to which the corners of our mouths would become wounded.
Hadith 9293
It is narrated from Musa’s father, Ali bin Rabah, who says: I was with Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Alexandria. People mentioned their prosperity. On this occasion, a Companion said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in such a state that his family had not eaten bread made of mixed barley and sifted flour.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), who was among the Companions of the Messenger, he says: I came to Madinah Munawwarah, while I was not acquainted with anyone. I stayed with a man at Suffah. Each day, both he and I would receive one mudd of dates. One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer. When he finished the prayer, one of the people of Suffah said: O Messenger of Allah! Dates have burned our stomachs and the coarse cloth of inferior cotton has eaten into our bodies. Hearing this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: By Allah! If I had bread or meat, I would surely feed you. Beware! Soon you will attain these blessings. Whoever among you attains that large cauldrons will be brought before you (then that will suffice for him), and you will wear clothes like the curtains of the Ka'bah. Then, for eighteen days, the food for me and my companion was the black fruit of the peelu tree. Then we went to our Ansari brothers, and they treated us well. In any case, we got dates there too, but they were of the best quality.
Hadith 9295
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Amr and Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Badri (may Allah be pleased with them), they say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command giving charity, so one of us would go and work as a porter and bring back a mudd, while today some possess a hundred thousand dirhams each. Shaqiq says: I think by the one with a hundred thousand, he meant himself.
Hadith 9296
Hasan Basri says: When the time of death of Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) approached, he began to weep and said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us an admonition, but we abandoned the will of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His admonition was that our sustenance should be only as much as the provisions of a rider. Then, when we saw the inheritance left by Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) after his death, it was worth twenty-five, twenty-six, or thirty-five, thirty-six dirhams.
Hadith 9297
Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One servant and one mount should be sufficient for you from this world.
Hadith 9298
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, I will be the closest to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the reason for this is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the person who will be closest to me is the one who departs from this world in the same state in which I am leaving him. And by Allah, every one of you has become involved in the world in some way or another, except me.
