بَابُ التَّرْغِيْبِ فِي التَّوَكُل
Chapter on encouragement to reliance on Allah
Hadith 9252
عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَتَوَكَّلُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ لَرَزَقَكُمْ كَمَا يَرْزُقُ الطَّيْرَ تَغْدُو خِمَاصًا وَتَرُوحُ بِطَانًا
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you place your trust in Allah as it is His right to be trusted, He will provide for you as He provides for the bird, which leaves in the morning with an empty stomach and returns in the evening with a full stomach.
Hadith 9253
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَتَوَكَّلُونَ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَوَكَّلْتُمْ) عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ لَرَزَقَكُمْ كَمَا يَرْزُقُ الطَّيْرَ أَلَا تَرَوْنَ أَنَّهَا تَغْدُو خِمَاصًا وَتَرُوحُ بِطَانًا
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If you place your trust in Allah as He deserves to be trusted, He will provide for you as He provides for the bird; do you not see that the bird goes out in the morning with an empty stomach and returns in the evening full and satisfied.
Hadith 9254
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ نَزَلَتْ بِهِ حَاجَةٌ فَأَنْزَلَهَا بِالنَّاسِ كَانَ قَمِنًا مِنْ أَنْ لَا تَسْهُلَ حَاجَتُهُ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهَا بِاللَّهِ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ بِرِزْقٍ عَاجِلٍ أَوْ بِمَوْتٍ آجِلٍ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever is faced with a need and presents it before people, he is more deserving that his need will not be fulfilled easily. And whoever presents his need before Allah Almighty, then Allah Almighty will either grant him sustenance quickly or will delay his death that was to come later.
Hadith 9255
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ أَصَابَتْهُ فَاقَةٌ فَأَنْزَلَهَا بِالنَّاسِ لَمْ تُسَدَّ فَاقَتُهُ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهَا بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْشَكَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِالْغِنَى إِمَّا أَجَلٌ عَاجِلٌ أَوْ غِنًى عَاجِلٌ
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever is afflicted with poverty and then presents his poverty to people, his poverty will not be fulfilled; and whoever presents it to Allah Almighty, He will soon enrich him—either by a swift death or by quickly granting him wealth.
Hadith 9256
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُرِيَ الْأُمَمَ بِالْمَوْسِمِ فَرَاثَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّتُهُ قَالَ فَأُرِيتُ أُمَّتِي فَأَعْجَبَنِي كَثْرَتُهُمْ قَدْ مَلَأُوا السَّهْلَ وَالْجَبَلَ فَقِيلَ لِي إِنَّ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ هُمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَكْتَوُونَ وَلَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ قَالَ عُكَاشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَدَعَا لَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ يَعْنِي آخَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مَعَهُمْ قَالَ سَبَقَكَ بِهَا عُكَاشَةُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the nations during the time of Hajj. His own Ummah was shown to him last. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When my Ummah was shown to me, their great numbers amazed me; whether it was a plain or a mountain, every place was filled. Then it was said to me that among them are seventy thousand individuals who will enter Paradise without reckoning. These are the people who do not get themselves cauterized, do not seek ruqyah (spiritual healing), do not take bad omens, and rely upon their Lord. Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He makes me among them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Then another man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He makes me among them too. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Ukasha has preceded you.
Hadith 9257
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثُ طَوَائِرَ فَأَطْعَمَ خَادِمَهُ طَائِرًا فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي الْغَدِ أَتَتْهُ بِهِ فَقَالَ لَهَا أَلَمْ أَنْهَكِ أَنْ تَرْفَعِي شَيْئًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَأْتِي بِرِزْقِ كُلِّ غَدٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that three birds were presented as a gift to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave one bird to his servant to eat. The next day, the servant presented a bird before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he said: "Did I not forbid you from keeping anything for the next day? For Allah, the Exalted, grants sustenance for every day."
Hadith 9258
عَنْ سَلَّامٍ أَبِي شُرَحْبِيلَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَبَّةَ وَسَوَاءَ ابْنَيْ خَالِدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا مَا يَقُولَانِ أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَعْمَلُ عَمَلًا أَوْ يَبْنِي بِنَاءً فَأَعَنَّاهُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ دَعَا لَنَا وَقَالَ لَا تَيْأَسَا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ) مَا تَهَزَّزَتْ رُءُوسُكُمَا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ تَلِدُهُ أُمُّهُ أَحْمَرَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ قِشْرَةٌ ثُمَّ يُعْطِيهِ اللَّهُ وَيَرْزُقُهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Habba and Sayyiduna Sawa’ (may Allah be pleased with them), they say: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was engaged in some work or constructing a building. We helped the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he finished his work, he prayed for us and said: As long as your heads keep moving, you should not despair of goodness and sustenance. Indeed, when a person is born from his mother, he does not even have a fine garment on him, but then Allah Almighty grants him and provides him sustenance.
Hadith 9259
عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أُحْصِي شَيْئًا وَأَكِيلُهُ قَالَ يَا أَسْمَاءُ لَا تُحْصِي فَيُحْصِي اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ قَالَتْ فَمَا أَحْصَيْتُ شَيْئًا بَعْدَ قَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِي وَلَا دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ وَمَا نَفِدَ عِنْدِي مِنْ رِزْقِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا أَخْلَفَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was counting and measuring something. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Asma! Do not count, otherwise Allah the Exalted will also start counting against you." Sayyida says: After this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whatever sustenance came to me and whatever was spent, I never counted anything, and whatever sustenance of Allah the Exalted was spent on any day, He granted its replacement.
