Hadith 9090
Abdullah bin Ubaid says that a group of the noble Companions came to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both). He presented bread and vinegar and said: Eat, the reason I am offering this is that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the best condiment is vinegar. It is a cause of a man's ruin that a group of his brothers comes to him and he considers what is present in the house as insignificant to offer as hospitality, and it is a cause of people's ruin that they consider what is presented to them in hospitality as insignificant.
Hadith 9091
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him. He presented whatever was available for hospitality and said: If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had not forbidden us from affectation, or if we had not been forbidden from our companion's affectation, we would have made special arrangements for you.
