بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي فَضْل «قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ» وَالْـمُـعَوَّذَتَيْنِ
Chapter on what has been narrated regarding the virtue of "Say: He is Allah, One" and the two protectors (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn)
Hadith 8857
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَوْ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قَرَأَ بِـ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَأَ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) or from some Ansari companion that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever recites Surah {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ }, it is as if he has recited one third of the Holy Qur'an.
Hadith 8858
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ أَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقُومَ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ قَالُوا وَهَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَإِنَّ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] ثُلُثُ الْقُرْآنِ فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَسْمَعُ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَدَقَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) was in a gathering, and he said: Is there anyone among you who is unable to stand in prayer at night with one third of the Qur’an? They said: Is it possible for anyone to have such strength? He said: Surah Al-Ikhlas is one third of the Qur’an. In the meantime, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, and after hearing Abu Ayyub, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu Ayyub has spoken the truth.
Hadith 8859
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] فَقَالَ أَوْجَبَ هَذَا أَوْ وَجَبَتْ لِهَذَا الْجَنَّةُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Paradise has become obligatory for him.
Hadith 8860
عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَضْعَفُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَعْجَزُ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَزَّأَ الْقُرْآنَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَجْزَاءٍ فَجَعَلَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] جُزْءًا مِنْ أَجْزَاءِ الْقُرْآنِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is it not possible for any one of you to recite one third of the Holy Qur'an in a single night? The people said: We are too weak and unable to do that. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has made the Qur'an into three parts, and one of those parts is Surah Al-Ikhlas.
Hadith 8861
عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أُمِّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] تَعْدِلُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ
Humaid bin Abdur Rahman bin Awf narrates from his mother that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surah Al-Ikhlas is equal to one third of the Qur'an.
Hadith 8862
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَيَعْجِبُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَرَأَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ [الإخلاص: 1-2] فِي لَيْلَةٍ فَقَدْ قَرَأَ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Does any one of you like that he should recite one third of the Qur'an in a single night? Whoever recited Surah Al-Ikhlas at night, he has recited one third of the Qur'an that night.
Hadith 8863
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُبُّكَ إِيَّاهَا أَدْخَلَكَ الْجَنَّةَ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: I love this Surah Al-Ikhlas. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: This love has admitted you into Paradise.
Hadith 8864
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ بَاتَ قَتَادَةُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقْرَأُ اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَتَعْدِلُ نِصْفَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ ثُلُثَهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Surah {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ} throughout the night. When this was mentioned to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! This Surah is equal to half or one third of the Holy Qur'an.
Hadith 8865
(وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ قَالَ فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالُوا مَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ يَقْرَأُ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ [الإخلاص: 1] فَهِيَ ثُلُثُ الْقُرْآنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Are you incapable of reciting one third of the Noble Qur'an in a single night? This was difficult for the companions, and they said: Who has the strength to do this action? He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Recite {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ}, for it is one third of the Qur'an.
Hadith 8866
عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ (يَعْنِي الْبَدْرِيَّ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ) رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Badri Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrates a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 8867
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْشُدُوا فَإِنِّي سَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكُمْ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَحَشَدَ مَنْ حَشَدَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَرَأَ {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} [الإخلاص: 1] ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ هَذَا خَبَرٌ جَاءَهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي أَدْخَلَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ قُلْتُ لَكُمْ إِنِّي سَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكُمْ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ وَإِنَّهَا تَعْدِلُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Gather together, I am going to recite to you one third of the Holy Qur'an. When those who were to gather had gathered, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and recited {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ}, then he went inside. We began to say to one another: Some news has come from the sky, because of which he has gone inside. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said: I had told you that I would recite one third of the Holy Qur'an to you, and this surah is equal to one third of the Qur'an (which I have recited to you).
Hadith 8868
(وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا) أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يَقْرَأُ {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} [الإخلاص: 1] حَتَّى خَتَمَهَا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا وَجَبَتْ قَالَ الْجَنَّةُ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ آتِيَهُ فَأُبَشِّرَهُ فَآثَرْتُ الْغَدَاءَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفَرِقْتُ أَنْ يَفُوتَنِي الْغَدَاءُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى الرَّجُلِ فَوَجَدْتُهُ قَدْ ذَهَبَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man reciting {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ} until he completed this Surah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has become obligatory." Someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What has become obligatory?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Paradise has become obligatory." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I intended to give this reciter the glad tidings, but I preferred to eat with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), fearing that I might miss the opportunity to eat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). But after eating, when I went to that man, he had already left."
Hadith 8869
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ قَرَأَ {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} [الإخلاص: 1] حَتَّى يَخْتِمَهَا عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ قَصْرًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذَنْ أَسْتَكْثِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُ أَكْثَرُ وَأَطْيَبُ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever recites {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ}, that is, Surah Al-Ikhlas, to the end ten times, Allah Almighty will build a palace for him in Paradise. Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah! Then I can have many palaces. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty is even more abundant and the bestower of excellent gifts.
Hadith 8870
عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} [الإخلاص: 1] تَعْدِلُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Surah Al-Ikhlas is equal to one third of the Noble Qur’an.
