Hadith 8850
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when {اِذَا جَائَ نَصْرُ اللّٰہِ وَالْفَتْحُ} was revealed, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In this is the news of my death; I will pass away this year.

Hadith 8851
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had given permission to the people of Badr to sit in his gathering, and he had also given me permission to sit with them. Some people objected and said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) allows this young man to sit with us, even though we have sons like him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you know who he is? One day, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called those people as well as me, and asked them about the interpretation of Surah An-Nasr. They said that Allah Almighty commanded His Prophet that when Makkah is conquered for you (peace and blessings be upon him), then seek repentance and forgiveness. He said to me: O Ibn Abbas! What is your opinion? I said: I do not hold such a view; the matter is that Allah Almighty, through this Surah, informed His Prophet that the time of your (peace and blessings be upon him) death has come, {إِذَا جَائَ نَصْرُ اللّٰہِ وَالْفَتْحُ} meaning the conquest of Makkah, {وَرَأَ یْتَ النَّاسَ یَدْخُلُوْنَ فِی دِینِ اللّٰہِ أَ فْوَاجًا} this is a sign of your (peace and blessings be upon him) death, {فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّکَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْہُ إِنَّہُ کَانَ تَوَّابًا}. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: Yes indeed, after seeing this (the scholarly competence of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both), how can you blame me?
